Which is the best to use for the average hotrod/weekend cruiser?X-pipes,H-pipes or niether of them and just run seprate pipes all the way out the back?Which has the best performance and which has the best sound? Is there any benifet to running a x-pipe or h-pipe?

supposedly x or h pipe helps smooth out the exhaust pulses and helps with torque. also it is supposed to make it alil quieter. But i dont normally run one because if one cylinder is doing something wierd i can hear it in the exhaust and it helps me locate issues when they arrive easier.

With a street car it is supposed to be better for torque and help with the scavenging effect. For top end maw power like a track application OR a car that stalls above where the torque is actually effected, true duals is fine. The right Y pipe is also good for the torque, but hard to really get right, nascar for example runs a Y pipe if i remember correctly.

Does any one have any GOOD info on scavenging?

I would imagine by introducing a X H or Y you be interupting the exhaust flow more then helping it.

I've heard of the Scavenging effect but I've never gotten any real info on if it helps or not.

And to answer your question OP, I was told an H pipe is to make it sound a little better and an X is for better performance. Again to what proof any one has on this is debatable but thats what I was told when I put my true duals on.

It helps with the torque basically on a street car. Ballances it out so to speak, that is from what i understand anyway.

In my experience running and reading about it, H helps torque out in the lower RPM's and gives a deeper sound. X helps out too in the lower range but not as well, above 3500 it performs leaps and bounds better than a H. It also makes the exhaust note a little higher and in my experience gets rid of popping.

Eqaulizing exhaust gases, changes tone, if a x or h pipe is done properly (there is a certain spot it is supposed to be) there is definite performance increases in torque and horsepower.

well i currently have a x-pipe set up on my nova and was considering going with two seperated pipes.but if it will actually help with the torque and horsepower ill just leave it as it is.

go with a h-pipe set up through a set of bullets i think you will be happy with it. i have a friend with a nova and he has a x-pipe set up on his, and i have a s10 with a 355 with a h-pipe and we both agree that mine sounds much better :D
