I switched the console in my 96 TA with a 98+ console. It didn't have the vert switch with it, but I finally got one. But the old switch had only 4 pins in the back for the connector to plug into, and the new style switch has 7 pins (4 in one row, 3 in another).

My only guess is that the extra pins are for something to stop the top from raising when the car is moving or something like that. Anyone know if I can put some connectors on the individual wires on my 96 and plug them into the 4 pins that are in one row on the new switch?

I can assure you, the pins aren't to stop the top from going up while you are moving, unless it is tied to the speed. I have put mine up and down a number of times while the car is moving, my car is a 2000. Granted never while I was going any faster than say 25, 30 at the most.

Beyond that bit of info, I bring nothing to the table for you.
