Thanks to my cousin's husband, I found out that the Madison Sports Car Club was running an all-day Auto-X school on Mother's Day for $10. The class was pretty good, but basic. More fun were the practical exercises and then the actual auto-x we ran in the afternoon. MORE than worth the money. This was definitely more fun than the dragstrip... I think I may have a new addiction.
I think more than anything I was surprised by the huge variety in cars that showed up. There was everything from Vettes to high-dollar sports cars to a whole bunch of Dodge Neons and SRT-4s.
If anybody gets the opportunity to try it, I highly suggest it. My cousin brought out a bad-ass Nikon D900 with a telephoto lens to get these (IMO) great shots.

My cousin's dad brought out his Mazdaspeed6. I gotta tell you, that was a pretty bad-ass car. I wouldn't mind having one for a DD.

My cousin brought his weekend toy, a Mazda Miata. Say what you want about alleged heterosexuals driving Miatas, this thing is pretty highly modified and an absolute beast on the auto-x track.

Finally, by far the most expensive car (hell, the most expensive three cars) at the event... a Panoz Esperante.
