Ok my top goes down but not up. I checked my fluid and its really low. I know its common sense but just be sure, do I need to fill it back up with fluid in order for it to work?

That's where I would start. I think there is a sticky about doing it.

I cant seem to find a quart of this fluid...only 5 gallons of it. I searched and found that brake fluid or ATF would work, is this true?

Well I filled it back up now it only goes up and down sometimes and barely that. Im beginning to think that the motor is out. I tried banging on it, then it would go halfway up then stop...whats next???

Sure that will work if you want to replace the pump and rams. GM sent out a TSB to the dealers back in 1999 USE only Mineral oil.You can find it at any drug store or supermarket.

I followed advice on other posts and used mineral oil bought at a drug store. Inexpensive and easy to fill. There is a resovoir adjacent to the vert motor. Used it last year and the motor works good. Tip; whenver I decided to take the top down, I unlatch it and give the top a starting push. I think this may prolong the vert motor. Hope this helps.

Bang on it harder--use a bigger hammer:punch:

motor might be going bad
