Just wondering if it is possible to run a 10 with street tyres, i have 255/35-18 Toyo street legal tyres on at present, but i have not managed to get under 2.0 60ft, but i am trapping at 129.4mph, and a personal best of 11.48.
It's possible to run 10's with street tires but I have never witnessed it. Your trap is definatlely there but your 60' foot isn't. 11.48 is a long way from 10's. :D Did you try taking some air out of the tires? Just get some drags and you should be deep into the 10's....if you can hook.

Possible? Yes. Easy? No.

A very good buddy of mine has done it in his C5 ZO6. However, his trap was a little higher than yours and the Vette has wider tires too. You are going to need at least a low 1.8x 60 ft to get close and not spin too much in the 1st half of the track.

Yes....with A LOT of horsepower and driving skill. It can be done though. I wouldn't feel safe running my G/N on street tires to find out.

I'm with Artic. Here's a little vid to motivate you to put some DR's on that car of yours.

Shit happens!
This happened when the car was running mid 12's now it runs 10's and would not even dream of trying to do that on a street tire due to traction issues at that speed. Good luck. Your trap speed should have you in at least high tens with low 60 ft and a good hook.

Woooosh! That was a close one. Nice save!
10's on D.R's yes. 10's on normal radials, no.

Thanks for the replies guys, got another meet in a few weeks hopefully without the rain showers like last time. I will try dropping the pressures from 25psi i ran last time and raise the rev limit so i dont have to shift to 4th at 128mph, see what it brings, i reckon 11.2 is probably as good as it will get.

Whats the reluctance to drag radials? That was one of the best mods done to my car. You won't regret it for those days at the track for obtaining lower ET, greater traction and hook!

I have to go and buy more wheels and tyres, and they are not cheap over here!

Your current setup without DR's I do not think it is possible. My best on street tires is 11.67 @ 126.6 with a 2.04 60ft.

I did that a few weeks ago but it happened when I shifted into 3rd and it was past the 1/8th mile. You got lucky, I did not, I hit the wall. I thought the car was going to be totaled but I came out pretty good. Street tires at the track is a bad idea.

Just because it's possible doesn't mean it's safe or worthwhile. I'd rather drop the money on some new tires and get a deep 10 than pay for a new car because I was trying to get a high 10.
