Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - 383 or 350 stroker?

Ok well i'm in love with the ls1 but i have decided instead of selling my car i am going to drop a new engine into it. I have a 1995 cadillac eldorado and was wondering which would be better? Or if anyone had any other ideas on engines to put in as im not the greatest when it comes to cars. Anyone have any advice for new engines?

Are you asking which is better between a 350 stroker and a 383?

If so they are the same thing, a stroked 350 is 99% of the time stroked to a 383 via a SBC 400 crank(3.75" as compared to the 350's 3.48 stroke).There are also kits to stroke a 350 to a 396 not as common as the added expense is usually not worth the 13cubic inches.

I'm also a member on cadillac forums and it seems as if there not as well versed over there on engine and engine related questions.

I've had a 355ci, 360ci and now a 385ci. I'll never build another 350 based SBC with a stock stroke crank. The 383 does everything better with no drawbacks of any kind.

Can't beat the torque of a 383! Another thing to look at is a new Dart SHP block. They probably are not much more expensive than machining a stock block and will be a lot more durable. Also, you can then jump up to 400+" and have even more torque without having to work the engine as hard.

i recommend vortec block with roller lifters. for the build

X2 the SHP block has blind head bolt holes so no water leaks and 350 main size so it slows down bearing speed a little.Overall it is a much better block but if I were gonna do one it would be a 4.125 bore.
