ok so here goes. im trying to gather opions on this matter well...because im just not sure!
i have a 95 z28 with a 454 in it. MILD cam. nothing wild but not stock ( i dont know the specs) iron rectangle port heads, performer rpm intake, 650dp carb with a 175 shot of spray ( wet kit ). engine is in place with motor plates & engine limiter.
transmission is a th400 rvmb w/ a 10" 3500 stall
rear end is a 9" W/ 3.08's ( its a street car )
running a 26" tire
any guess on what this donkey is gonna run in the 1/4? :bang:
and or estimated HP output?

My guess is low to mid 13's. That 650dp seems awful small for a 454, plus it being your first time out with this set-up. First times out usually never go as well as you hoped they would. I'm sure you've been given a hard time about that carb but please, try and borrow a good 850dp for the strip.I'm sure it could use it, my friend's 454 was running out of carb on the big end with a very streetable set-up with even an 850. Good luck and I'll pray for 12's for you!

now see i was originally going to get a quick fuel 850 carb. and iwas told that was way to big for an almost stock engine. we will see what it turns out i guess

Yeah, I don't recall anything 450+ c.i.coming from the factory with anything that small, but I could be wrong.

Wish I had the nerve to try it myself. I got a good deal on a '94Z with a blown motor and can't decide between a small-block or a 6.0L. Work is so slow it's giving me alot of time to think about it! Look at the bright side right?

i feel you on the work thing...the 454 was originaly bought for 1500 carb to pan with 3k on a rebuild. i changed the intake and carb and put go go juice on it. i had it in my pro-touring 72 chevelle chassis. but i realized i needed another 20k worth of body and interior so i abandon ship on that project and got my 95z with no drivetrain for 600 bucks. it has the big block almost ready to run with the th400 rmvb through the floor frame connectors, motor plates and limiter, full interior. all it needs is suspention, fuel tank and paint. and im rocking....did i mention im only into the camaro for 5 grand so far? muccccch nicer than the chevelle lol.

Hard to say when you dont know the camshaft specs.
If its a street car it would run better with 781 or 049 oval port heads on it. I used 781's on a 468 10:1,a flowed Holley 850,th400 3000 stall, 4.10 gears and a 29x10 slick in a 79 Z28 with some weight reduction (but still full interior and 10 point cage) and it went 11.0's at 120.
Your carb is too small. It should have atleast a 750 on it, but an 850 would be even better.
I also used a Pro Products hurricane single plane intake with some porting by me and the cam was way mild also, it was a Comp Magnum 292 flat tappet (not even a solid) .550/.550 lift 244/244@050 on a 110 LSA.

LOL !
I wasnt trying to rain on your parade but ive been there and trying to give you a heads up.
Those large oval port heads I listed are AWESOME street/strip heads and work well to 6000-maybe 6500. I only spun mine to 6 though.
What are the casting # of the heads that are on it now? Maybe we can work with them, but your going to need atleast 9.5:1 to play the game unless you wanna spray it every pass.

not terribly sure what the casting # is on the heads. the engine is a 1977 2 bolt main 454 with the prefix " hi perf pass." on the rear behind the flexplate ( if that tells you anything ) my guess is its gonna be a diaper. but time will tell. the heads you recomended what does a set usually run for? would i be better off with a set of aluminum heads, bigger cam, and single plane intake? im not trying to make this thing a track warrior. its gonna be beatin down the local roads and highways all the time too.

p.s. ill kill it with spray every pass =) as long as it will hold the 180 shot on a stock swing set =X the car will only see track time 1 or 2 times a year. im 2hrs away from the track
