Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - Which one will be Faster

Hi,

just wondring which Engine will be faster in the 1/4mile if we put them in the same car as a test

Blown 871 454ci that makes 700Hp or 572ci N/A that makes 700HP

and which one will be more relaible as daily drive if both were on pump gas

Theoretically, the blown engine should have a better torque curve, and should not have any trouble going on the street and can even get a smaller pulley that will make even more power/boost if you want it to.

i would say the blown 454 is going to be more street friendly. faster i don't know because the speed is greatly affected by the gears and weight of the vehicles which you never mentioned, but just going on the motors i would sayif you could hook both cars nicely then they would prolly be close but i think the 454 would edge the 572 out due to reving quicker and more torque with the forced induction.

What about if we say it will be used in sand hillclimb ... will the blower still be a better choice

well with sand in the equation, you better have a good filter on there to keep the sand out of the blower and with it being an 871 i would assume it has no filter. if it were going in an offroad application i would prolly go for the 572 for ease of repair vs. rebuilding blowers and the motor from dirt and stuff getting sucked up in. got any pics of the ride? must be like rail buggy or something.

personally i wouldn't want the blower due to the sand eating up the rotors and seals in it. if it weren't for the sand i would prolly go with the blown 454. you shouldn't be disappointed with it no mater which route you go but i am just thinking with repair for damaged parts in mind. if both motor motors are built with really good parts then they will be close in price to replace the bottom end parts if something happens, but the blower adds a whole lot more to rebuild when the rotors get worn/eaten up by sand etc.

Use the 572....a motor that big will hardly have to work to make 700HP.

yeah it will make more power easier than a n/a 454 but the blower would have a lot more drivability/less strain on the engine, but with that said it's not a daily driver it's a play toy so it won't matter. just make sure to get a good filter system(duh) and have fun slinging sand.

Its a helluva lot harder to tune a carbed blower motor so its "street friendly" than an N/A carbed motor.

I have 572 that in my car that runs 8.90's for now. If I could do it over I would build a 6.0 ls style small block. Your combo would be much lighter. You could build a 625 hp smallblock and get the same time out of it. Dollar for dollar who wants to sling all that weight around from a BBC. I'm curently building a stock bottom 6.0 just so I can get my feet wet with these ls motors. I must say there is nothing like a GROWN BIG BLOCK with a 4/7 swap growling at ya.

And your going to have to spin that 6.0 to the moon and its not going to come close on the torque that 572 is putting out. The 572 is going to be cheaper to run and maintan than the SB.

there's no replacement for displacement! :D

the blower car should be faster, but it also comes down to the torque. if it overloads the tires at low rpm, it wont leave very well...
