Yes, the machine shop can tell you the limit.

What compression are you trying to achieve? What is the 305 in?

there was something about the intake side to. for every so thous you mill off the head you gotta mill some off the intake side for the intake to be right. but some machine shops dont have the right mill to do it around here due to the ridge on the top of the intake side where the valve cover seals. thats what ive been told. i dont know. just something to ask your machine shop.

and the vortecs are prone to cracking so i wouldnt mill shit off. unless it was truely necessary.

oh really?..that the first time i heard that....that sucks lol

im trying to achive about the same as stock(or a lil bit more) compression
the motor is a '89 305 out of a firebird formula TPI lb9 motor(im in the process of gathering the parts for a H/C/I)

do you guys recomend the vortecs or the world products heads..the trickflows are a lilttle bit out of budget

i like vortecs. i use a 1094 felpro heas gasket. it helps with the quench. boost compression maybe .2 points.

they always seem to crack right at the exhaust valves. just dont get them hot.

I have used 3 sets of vortec heads, 062 and 906 without issues, i wouldnt worry about it.

Putting them on a 305 is already going to bring the compression up due to the smaller bore size vs. a 350.

Incorrect, the large chamber is too big, the 305 heads are usually a 58cc head for a reason.

Here's a lil reading for ya. I know its a TBI motor but the bottom halfs were pretty much identical from tbi to tpi motors.

Opps, I was thinking it was a 350 in my head and typing 305.

Use the vortec 305 heads, they flow basically the same. Just have smaller valves and 58cc chambers. Look for the later 509 casting.
