I'd rather an American company, even if it's Ford outsell a Japanese company any day.

???

Toyota really takes pride in vehicles.

There's usually more than meets the eye with these top seller claims.

A good portion of their #'s come from rental companies, & look into them, & the deals they get into cars.

Then the resale of those cars.
Change gears a little what would you buy?
A Ford or a Toyota?

Hate to say it but if I wasn't driving a really fast Camaro then I would be driving a really fast 03 Cobra... so Ford...

Those numbers can't be right.

If Ford sold only 1.4 million cars last year....their F-series alone sells close to 1 million. Light trucks are just over 200,000 (up over 14%), so are explorers and such. Ford matches those numbers in trucks and SUV's alone, I dunno their car sales but I'm sure its a lot higher than 0. Plus Ford has about 3x as much money as Toyota.

^?umm they're not making as much money any longer..

Toyota was set to outsell them, globally, remember toyota has like 16 vehicles they offer.

also the camry and corolla are in the best sellers list. Also Lexus is Toyota as well.

Ford has improved but toyota is taking things to a new level..

I think the problem is the misconception that a toyota truck is great because of all the mud racing and so forth etc. Well hell if a truck is light then of course it will fly through mud like nothing. Try towing a house with them is where they will fail hence that is the primary job of a truck in my opinion. They are exactly what their name speaks. A TOY. Not a work truck.

That sucks for the domestics

I will never again buy a Foreign car. This just sucks. Detroit needs to get their ass in gear and we need to support them. I have never even considered buying a foreign made truck or SUV.

I agree. I work at alot of construction sites and have yet to see a Toyota truck at work. I see Chevrolet/GMC,Ford,and Dodge. They are real trucks all the rest of them are for yuppies and and weekend warriors.I drive a Chevrolet 2500HD w/6l and there is no way in hell a Toyota pickup (or the Nissan Titan) can deal with what that Chevrolet goes through on a daily basis.

Many Toyotas are built right here in the US. Remember our cars are CANADIAN... The world really is getting smaller, and its blurring the lines between import and domestic.

I have to say that is not good news.

lol, I was at a Chevy dealership and some salesman was like, "Get that foreign crap outta here." I said, "My Toyota is more American than your Chevy. Mine was actually made in the USA." No response.

no but it will do most of what a silverado (it's competition) is able to do..

Edmunds has it as the most significant vehicle of the year..

"The standard (and only available) engine is a stout 5.6-liter V8 that produces 305 horsepower and 379 pound-feet of torque, with 90 percent of that torque available at 2,500 rpm."

bob lutz was praising nissans ne guy for turning around that company..

but regardless..lines are blurred. and it's not like some japanese guy couldn't buy 25% of ford or some american guy could have bought 25% of toyota..

things are not so black and white anymore, there are whole towns in america depending on a honda plant for employment.

The other three cars in the driveway are GM, so I think I'm covered. :)

Will Clark...what matters is not where it is built, but where the bottom line profit ends up. More importantly, its the stature of the country and the way the world views is based on things such as this that matters.

I agree , I like north american cars and will continue to support them . If we want them to engineer better and better automobiles and be able to push the envelope we have to support them . :)

I'm not sure why any red blooded American would want a foreign automaker to surpass a domestic one. Brand loyalty (GM vs. Ford) goes out the window when you start talking about Americans losing jobs.

Bottom line my Tacoma employed more Americans than any car at that Chevy dealership.

That said I have three GM cars, I'm not gonna lie to myself and say they're all American.
