I looked up the heads that I have here at home and noticed that they are the camel hump heads and wanted to know how can I tell if their the 3782461X heads with the bigger port volumes? or if they are just the ones with the regular 160/62cc port volumes..

in my opinion the vortec heads are better. double humps are old technology

ok Cool thanks man, I picked up a SBC 383 last night complete motor with a 650 carb, manifold, heads, and a extra solid roller cam with lifters also. They guy just wanted a bottle of JACK for it so I went on and bought one. The guy thinks the motor is blown because one day he turned the car on to idle in his garage and after a couple minutes he hears a big "boom" and blew his mufflers off, I mean completely destroyed them.(some cheap ass mufflers) he turned the car off and didn't bother checking to see what caused the explosion so he just swapped in a another 350 in it and left the 383 on the side. When I picked up the motor last night I tried asking him to see if he knew what caused the explosion and he said he timing was at 118*. So im gonna take the motor apart and see how it looks inside. Whats the worst shape this motor can be in? anyone know?

cracked cylinders, pistons and or heads, if the engine did grenade.
sounds like carb may have been WAY too rich. too much fuel in the exhaust will cause the mufflers to explode
lol
best way to know, take to machine shop for inspection, magnaflux
