I just got some infinity's installed 2 in the front and 2 in the sails...i got my hatch speakers disconected and now am looking to put in a sub and 2 amps.
The 2 10's will cost more but will probably sound better but im not much of an audiophile so im not sure how much of a dif. it would be.

I just got a single Rockford Fosgate 10 Punch 2 in a subthump stealth box and a 600w kenwood. I wasnt going for huge beat but this thing is kicking ass. Great quality fast and hard. I have all my settings on half of what it can do and it hurts when im at 75% volume. Anything more than what I have I feel that its wayyyyy overkill.

single 10" is good.
I have single 10" alpine, i forget the specs but it is way overkill with just 1 sub.

Ive got a subthump box ,600w Kenwood KAC-6104D which is more like 300 watts at 2ohms. I then got Rockford Fosgate P2D410 which is 4 ohm dual voice coil or if you wire them - to - to - and the + to + to + youll get 2ohms on that same sub. The sound is awesome and still over kill. I could dull it down by wiring one side - to + to + then - to + to - will give you 4 ohms. This wiring is from the connectors on the sub to the connector on the box. Just run the wires from the amp to the sub like you would anything else, a single + to + on the box and - to - on the box. I took my spare tire out along time ago and since Im in the AF I have tools and materials to my disposal so I made an amp rack to fit in the spare tire area. The amp itself is very small and im sure you could find another easier place to mount it. Im just an OCD perfectionist.

The sub is Alpine Type-E 10"
Model: SWE-1043
Continuous Power Handling 250W
Peak Power handling 750W
Impedance 4 ohms
Number of Voice Coils 1
The Amp is Alpine - 500W Class D Mono MOSFET Amplifier with Adjustable Crossover Model #MRP-M500
This amp only powers my sub. I 'd recommend an amp that can run your 4 speakers and this sub. It 'd be a cleaner install than having 2 amps in my opinion. I got these at bestbuy.

I'd recommend not getting Type E, not getting Alpine, and not going to Best Buy. Also, a single 10" can be decent, but a single 12" can blow it away. And no, 10" doesn't sound better when comparing to a properly set up 12".
I could give you recommendations if you post a budget.

Ok, I can understand the first and third statement, but why not Alpine? I've had several of their hu's and they are very nice. Granted that's all I've owned, never had their speakers, subs, or amps.

I may or may not work for them part time. I too recommend not going with big retailer. Most of us installers are competent enough, but there is ABSOLUTELY NO EMPHASIS placed on the sales floor people learning car audio, which requires a knowledge of basic physics to sell. Instead, they pull us away from our installs to answer a plethora of dumb fucking questions about what brand radio sounds better or how many volts are in a watt, or what kind of speaker a customer has in his car that we haven't seen yet. If you made $2 over minimum wage, would you bother learning Ohm's law? you'd shit if you knew about the mark up.

A single 12 will give you 40% more cone space than a 10". I've run both single 10 and 12. It really does depend on the speaker. Currently I have a Image Dynamics Q12. It is an SQ sub. It will get loud when needed but the quality is the best I've heard.

1 good quality 10" is enough for most. I hear alot of guys with F-bodies using a single 10" sub and they are sufficient for most even at an entry level quality sub like the Alpine Type-E. I've used several quality 10" subs that will put you out of the car with just a single sub and around 400watts RMS of power in stealth enclosures.
A quality 12" sub will ultimately out perform a quality 10" sub without question but the real question really is how much bass are you trying to add to the car and how much do you want to spend. Most midlevel 10" subs will perform as desired and fit in a stealth type enclosure adding more then enough bass for the average listener. People who know about CDT, Fi, Image Dynamics, RE Audio, etc. I would say are not the average listener because they have much higher standards and expect more performance which is why they are familiar with these brands in the first place (by the way that's a compliment to you guys not a knock). Plus those types of brands will far outperform a comparably priced "known" brand (Alpine, Kicker, MTX, etc.) carried by the big box retailers by a long shot. A big box store wants to carry product people are familiar with as far as name recognition for sales purposes.
You said your not much of an audiophile so a single 10" sub would probably perform much the way you want it to and keep some money in your pocket. Just my $.02.

Keeaudio is correct. Also, it really comes down to what quality sound do you want and of course......what's your budget.
Bear in mind to keep a few $$ budgeted for wiring/connectors and misc upgrades (like the Big 3). :D
