The timing is computer controlled, nothing you can do manually, it has to be PCM tuned. As for misfire, when was the last tune up?

you need to get a tech 2 to set the timing. it just basicly sets the phase of the crank sensor to the distributor. it (cmp retard) needs to be 0. then they will be together. and it should run smooth. from there the computer sets the "timing". i probably said it all wrong. but ive done a few intake gaskets on them and thats how they taught me at the dealer.

ding ding ding. we've got a winner. actually the spec is 0 +/- 2* lol. it makes a big difference in how it runs and the power output.

ha. im not right often. but ive done alot of intake gaskets on the "R" engines. most of the time you can mark the distributor.

fwiw, mercury marine uses a similar setup on their newer style marine engines, and i have seen them to where if the dist. if off like 1/8" it will make the engine miss and run like crap when you rev it up. easy way to fix it is just rotate the dist slightly both ways to see if the miss goes away. i'm sure it is much easier to do with the tech 2 handset.
