I have a 1995 trans am with the premium sound not sure if its monsoon being that the amp is under the passenger sail panel. But it has a aftermarket sony head unit with some cheap 6-1/2 dual speakers. And my issue is once past half volume it dessorts when any amount of bass is used and is not very crisp or clear. And my dads 1999 stock monsoon sounds way better. I tried putting a higher 240 watt kenwood over the 140 wat duals and it didnt help at all. Any info on a magic setup that can be done for cheap or wat my options are would be great. Thanks

hmm. i have a 95 T/A with the same sound system and all i had to do was add an aftermarket head unit. i didn't have to do anything with the wiring, i just used an adaptor. i did change out my front door speakers at one point since they were going out. 1995 is not monsoon btw. i think that came out in 1997. as for the bass thing i dunno. i don't generally use a lot of bass on mine so i suppose thats why mine sounds fine over 1/2 volume. i've found on my decks that a setting of 3 for trebel and 1 for bass sounds the best.

Can I just bypass the stock amp and put in an alpine 3548 and it will fix it? When putting an amp do the rca cables bring the amp to the speakers or do you wire the amp to the radio and them to each speaker?

Where can I get the specs on the stock amp?

I don't remember having to do anything special with the amp. I'm pretty sure i have the premium sound on my 95 T/A since it has the factory steering wheel controls (although disconnected) and the tweeters in the doors. i didn't have to do anything special to wire up an aftermarket unit. i bought a wiring harness adaptor and wired the speaker wires, power antenna, ignition wire, memory wire (to keep the clock and radio settings when the car is off) and everything ran fine. it was very simple. i don't remember if my unit has RCA's or not but i never used them nor did i use the old unit's rca's even when i had a 6 disk in the trunk. that was connected with a special plug on the back of the head unit for jensen changers. my cd player now is a JVC mp3 player with a 4 gb usb thumb drive plugged into the front of it.
here's a pic of my deck and a pic of my door panel showing the speaker layout

Sounds to me like your sail panel speakers are blown. This is quite common and considering yours are probably original (14 years old), it's time to replace them.

No I have dual brand speakers and they are not blown all around

and I don't think the factory amp can handle how far i turn the volume up. So i turned the bass down and the volume goes higher without distortion. But I think this is the best I am gonna get without bypassing the stock amp.

You do realize that the original sail panel speakers were subs and that you've replaced them with (cheap) 3-ways that aren't designed to handle a bass-only signal?
The factory amp powers only the sail panel subs and produces a low-pass filtered signal... so the "mid" and tweeter of those 3-ways are useless and the woofer can't handle the power.

So wat would you suggest as these came with the car and I don't want to tare the whole thing apart and run wires to each speaker for a new aftermarket amp.

I suspect that there's nothing wrong with the amp. I think you'll find that replacing just the sail panel speakers with subs will solve the problem. Contact Kee Audio (a sponsor here) - he has several 6.5" subs in various price ranges.

But the same thing happens with the front door speakers break up at high volume with any load of bass put on them. Also any specs on my stock amp? It is under the sail panal anything close to a monsoon amp?

Well then, I suggest you consider replacing the speakers and/or the head unit. You can only get so much performance out of cheap equipment.

When I bought my 94 the previous owner had an aftermarket Head Unit installed with the adapter plug for the factory harness, but the sail panel speakers were not playing,I found that the power signal wire going to the factory amp was not going to anything on the Head Unit.I spliced the wire that goes to the amp and ran it to my remote turn on wire on the aftermarket Head Unit and the sail panel speakers work fine.Did anyone else have this problem?Sorry if this steers away from the topic.

I just checked mine and no i can't say i had that problem. there is definately bass playing out of my sail panel speakers. they are the original stock speakers and the wiring harness is one i bought at best buy back in 2004 when i bought the car. ive had 2 different decks hooked up using the same wiring harness and i don't remember having a problem with the first one or the current one which has been in there for about 3 years. my front speakers were going out (making a crackling noise on some songs) and i replaced them in 2004 but the rest of my setup except for the deck is factory stock. i get bass from both sides of the rear seat and normal sound from the front door speakers and the rear trunk speakers.

Thanks for posting 1995blacktattop,I was just wondering if I was the only one,I found the receipt when the aftermarket deck was installed and it was back in 2000 by circuit city.Maybe they just hooked it up wrong.
