Ok I have a quick question. I was looking at 1le.net and it says in 1998-1999 you could get a SS or Z28 1LE? I thought it was only a option on a Z28 and then later in 01-02 SLP took it over and made a SS 1LE and GM stopped making 1LE's...? any info on this?

98 to 99 GM put the 1LE suspension on the car, so yes it could be had on a Z28 and a SS.
In 2001 SLP took it over as a second option feature, so it became a SS and Firehawk only option.

That's actually pretty obvious since WS6 wasn't brought back until 1996.

I've searched everywhere. Can someone point me in the right direction to find the production numbers on how many 2002 SS's were produced with the 1LE package?
If you can narrow it down to the ones in SOM, that would be awesome. Someone told me there were only about 54.

^ Unfortunately those numbers were never released by SLP . . . :(
IMO an option package like the 1LE was only a true 1LE in a hardtop with no power options, anything else is just 1le susp option and not nearly as rare...

When SLP took over 1LE, it was just a suspension package.
To my memory, 1LE for certain years was more than just a suspension package. For certain years, it dictated that you couldn't have the Bose stereo, couldn't have power options, and couldn't have leather seats. I believe A/C delete was a part of the available options as well. An oil cooler was another part of the option for certain years.
After 1999, 1LE was just simply a suspension package. It was no longer a factory race car.
I haven't read the materials I have in a few years now, so I'm not ready to add the info to my site yet, but for what it's worth, I believe everything I said above (from memory) is correct.

You are correct. The third gen 1LE's were intially zero option IROC's purpose built for SCCA and CASC street stock competition. The old 1LE.net site is long gone, but here's some good info on the evolution of the RPO.
