The new 458 Italia!


A new direct-injected 4.5-liter V8 ups the power ante it 570 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Eighty percent of that torque is now available at an impressively low 3,250 rpm, thanks probably in part to the 12.5:1 compression ratio.

The structure is fabricated out of aluminum giving the 458 a dry weight of just 3,042 pounds. Acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 3.4 seconds and this is the first production Ferrari V8 to top the 200 mph barrier, now getting to 202 mph.

The 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia also makes a statement about speed. The 458 Italia is faster than the high-performance 430 Scuderia, which was not only faster than the F430 but also the Enzo, Ferrari's last hypercar. The 458 Italia will surpass 203 mph, marginally more than the 430 Scuderia's top speed of 197 mph. The new car is also quicker to 60 mph than the 430 Scuderia and beats it under braking. It is superior in a straight line and will also beat the 430 Scuderia on a twisting road. The 458 Italia has F1 Trac stability control as well as E-Diff, but both systems have been improved enough to put 25 percent more power to the road when it exits a corner.

I like that better than I have liked any Ferrari since the F40. I miss the air scoops on the side though. Wish the wheels were smaller and tires had more sidewall.
Now just throw a couple turbos on it and it will be almost perfect.

im more concerned with the low torque. i know ferrari's high revv-ing, low displacement V8's have never been torque monsters, but shit. 570 and not even 400tq. up the cubes and get some torque; not that this thing is slow by any means. itll blow a C6Z outta the water. and the looks :drool::drool::drool: its like a baby enazo with a little F430 in it. the curves on this car are incredible. Ferrari is on a roll with the California and now this car. i wouldnt mind the wheels be a little thicker, but its fine. sex on wheels.....again.

Nice, better than the one in my thread! Things i could do without are the Nissan-esque headlights and the three echaust tips. Otherwise, im in love!

I don't see their low torque as a hindrance, and if the would go with more cubes than they couldn't spin it as fast and half the attraction to Ferrari's is hearing their V8's scream.

It's got more torque in a smaller car than an fbody and people are complaining. European taxes are based on engine displacement so the carmakers use small engines to make as much power as possible at the sacrifice or torque.

i wasnt calling it a problem, as i know people love 8k RPMs from an italians v8, i know i do. all i was saying was that if these cars amde more torque, esp with such little weight to carry, theyd be that much more monsterous. at least its down low in the power range now, not up at like 5k or something crazy

Don't like the look. But certainly impressive performance numbers.

Those are some hips its got. I think it's pretty sexified except for maybe the headlights.

I miss all the scoops and wings too. however knowing ferrari and the even higher top speed the smooth body is probably for the aerodynamics

what i find wonderfully ironic about this is that they tax bigger engines to keep fuel economy up, yet the big gas guzzling v8's (ls1,2,6,7, etc) tend to have much better gas mileage than any of the supercar breed :lol:

To be fair, a big reason the LSx series motors get such good gas mileage is because of the transmission gearing, not just the engine itself. As far as the new 458 Italia goes, :drool: :hail:

Also to be fair you couldn't have that gearing without the Ls engines' power bands.

If I'm not mistaken, the 430 had something like 4.30 gears. Put 4.30s in any supercar and it's gonna suck gas. I do agree on the powerband, how else could an ACR Viper set the Nurburgring record with 3.07s in it? High torque at low rpms is a beautiful thing.

The car looks great, much better than the "rendering" previously posted. I'm not a fan of the wheels. They look too much like the 599 wheels, which I dislike more. Power seems good, but I was suprised at the low torque as have some others. One thing I haven't figured out yet is why not put a v-12 in it? They have them, and they are already making more power and torque.

398 is peak torque. If you read again it says 80% of that is available at about 3,250. 398 x .8 = 318.xx ft lbs.

Looks amazing with what seems like power to match.
