I am going to apply for Collectors Insurance and I need to prove that my car is a limited production vehicle. Here's what they ask for:
"Submit a letter from the vehicle manufacturer, recognized car club or a collector organization attesting to the vehicle’s limited production status. Must be printed on official letterhead."
Can I contact SLP or something?
Thanks for any help.

It's worth a shot to contact SLP
Which Insurance are you getting? Try Hagerty, They didn't ask me that information. If you have a lot of miles on the car they probaly won't cover you. If you only drive it to shows & you keep it in a garage they should cover you.

SLP can probably get you one of their birth certificate things printed up.

from jersey, hmm? im going through the same with my TA. i contacted pontiac and got a letter from them, but of course its not what i really asked for. i have a feeling im going to get rejected. having an SS, you might be better off because of the SLP modifications. who knows if they will actually send you a letter for it though.

Thanks guys.
It is an 01 Stripper SS with 19K miles. I was talking to my friend who mentioned he just got his 5.0 inspected and how he has collector insurance on that and his 03 Mach 1. I am going to contact SLP and see if they can send me a letter or something. I am currently looking at Grundy Insurance.

I currently have Grundy and I was never asked those questions I currently have my 1969 Z/28 (value 60k), 1996 Impala SS (value 30k), 2000 V6 Camaro (value 10k), 2001 Z/28 (value $25k), and 2007 haulmark Enclosed car hauler (value $6k) under my policy.
Almost all of our Camaro Club members (Classic Camaro of Central Florida) all have Grundy with several of them have just 4th Gen's under Grundy.

This is not for Grundy, the NJ DMV requires that you show proof, along with the Collector Car insurance, so you can get it inspected(no emissions or safety).

Any luck with this. When i needed proof to get collector liscence plates in Ohio i called GM directly. I cant find the number at the moment, but i just navigated through the website and found a number for customer service inquiries. It was just a call center, but all i really had to do was ask them to send me a letter stating how many vehicles were produced with RPO code WU8, and that took care of it. I'll post up the number if i can find it

I called SLP and they couldn't help me out. They were helpful but couldn't send me a letter. I called the insurance company that I will hopefully be dealing with and I asked them if they could and he said it wouldn't be a problem. So when I get the insurance I'll just ask them to send the letter.
If you find that number though post it up.

You can contact GM customer service. I called them and they sent me a letter with GM letterhead stating my car was production number 3065 of 3364 made.

I too live in NJ and have been researching the collectors registration for my 97 SS. I found a few people in a Toyota forum saying that NJ only considers cars with a build number under 2500 units.
I was just about to call SLP when I found this post, I can't believe they won't help with this.
I wonder if the SLP/SS window options sticker would work...
BTW, I also read they (the state) want pics of the car and that all the info goes in front of a committy for approval.... how absurd.

its fucking stupid. of course they had to change the laws for this a month BEFORE my registration expired. so when it was time to go through it, they already changed it all. i used to defend this state.....now theyre only making it harder and harder to do ANYTHING.
i called pontiac several times, and even tried HPP. maybe sometime before she becomes historic she can get collectors.

The guy I talked to at SLP couldn't help me but he did give me his opinion on how to go about it. Get it appraised, etc. but that wasn't what I wanted to hear haha. Yes you do need to take pictures of the car; front, back, left and right. I didn't hear anything about being a build of 2,500 though.

The 2500 maybe speculation/internet rumor.
Did you try your luck and call GM?
I'll give it a try on my day off next week.

if you get through to GM, by the time you finally get anything from them, itll be wrong. i specifically stated what i needed in the letter from them. all i got was something showing the VIN number and a 'proof of ownership' statement. completely wrong.

Yes but I still haven't gotten the insurance.

Grundy. I just said that I wanted Collector Inspection for the NJ DMV and that they needed a letter verifying that it's a collector car. They said no problem, but like I stated above I still didn't get the insurance.

I have my Firehawk insured for $30k under Grundy with no problems.
EDIT: Are we talking applying for classic/collector plates or specialty insurance? After re-reading it's confusing.
