These pics were from the weekend before the video (same track), and that's a full out Porsche Cup Car I'm running away from in the photo. the open wheel car is a Vintage Formula Ford I also race...I race it in the next class up as a Club Ford which allows me to run the slicks as opposed to treaded tires. If anything it's a disadvantage to me because real club fords have much better aero and suspension geometry, but I was struggling with over-heating in the FF and didn't finish any races and only finished 1 session...I have a leaky seal somewhere i need to hunt down that's letting air into the system
aaaand videos:
I have em on Youtube as 4 parts:

or here as 1 24min video:
http://vholdr.com/video/vara-race
my friend still hasn't sent me the pics from the weekend the videos are from. The black Porsche in the vid is a NASA "Pro Porsche" driver/car
My Corvette is a T-1 prepped car for racing in SCCA, This was my 3rd time in the car and I'm still a few seconds off the T-1 guys times (at this track), so I'm spending the rest of my year doing testing and saving my $ from races for next season :)
Video Cliffs:
for the solid 24min vid--first few laps are cool, then you can skip to 10min in when i catch the leaders..

Those are some cool pics! The formula ford looks like a blast - when you say vintage, what years were those run?

My FF is a 1969, some of the others range from 1970-1992. Around 1972 builders started learning about suspension geometry and aerodynamics....so they are leap years ahead of my car in race design...I have to push 12/10ths to keep up and beat them  and a few of them, there's not a single person who can drive my car to beat them (like a Crossle 32F or a Swift DB1). I'm looking to rent my friends DB1 for a weekend and with a good driver it's a front runner, so I'm looking forward to that!
It's basically a giant go-kart though!

Brother ... you are WAY too nice of a driver. LOL You owned the M3 and 996 in numerous places and let the opportunities pass. When they find themselves in the marbles, put a nose in there. Make them look at their mirrors ... make them make more mistakes.
Also, put yourself on their passenger side rear as much as you can. It's a blind spot and its harder to see you out of the right side mirror. It also takes their eyes off the windshield. It makes them more mistake prone.
Nice patient driving though ... very consistant, very predictable. You certainly spin the crap out of the motor though. I'm not used to that in my lowly CMC car. Sounds fantastic!
So you run with SCCA?
A friend in a T2/AI Camaro slapped the wall at Fontana a couple years ago. He hit that dip just before you transition to the front straight did some damage and finished off the damage at the tranistion. It either the sheared the ARP wheel studs or explaoded a right front hub. It was ugly ...

 ya, I'm not the same way in the FF, trust me! :D I'm just feeling out the car still getting my bearings in it.
Thanks for the advice Mitch! I'll take all that I can get right now since my coach is MIA (my dad...back in GA for business). Funny you mention passenger quarter...I learned that on one of the apex's I blew trying to find where that white BMW was and if he was putting his nose under me  Now that I see the rear vid, he was just sitting there. And thanks, we're allowed 3" exhaust and no cats now, i'm running straight 3" stainless with x-pipe and no mufflers/cats or anything..sound will be a big problem for me when I get out to Laguna Seca!
My first SCCA race will be at Infineon in a couple weeks, I'm likely to be the only T1 car there, but that's fine with me. I just want to run an SCCA event now so I can apply for the school waiver (racing under my HSR license now). That and I'm getting lucky bc this is a double regional coming up putting me half way to my National license.
OUCH! That's definitely not a good way to end a weekend :\
How do your brakes hold up in CMC? I'm already getting caliper spread after 2 hard weekends and 1 test day in the vette :o

LOL ... I caught myself yelling at the monitor "Stick it in there ... gas, gas, gas!" ;)
CMC racing is a lot like Miata racing ... momentum. We try and stay off the middle pedal and slide the car to bleed off speed. That and we are blessed here in Texas with brake friendly tracks for the most part.
Good luck at Sears Point (old school, here).

 I do that sometimes watching videos too
No doubt, it will always be Sears..I pretty much grew up there (was my dad's home track). I'm only 24, but I've talked to a lot of people who look at me confused when I say Sears instead, so add on the Infineon and get the 'ohh yaa, i forgot about that.'
Talk about a terrible name change

Who prepped the T1 car?
SIK02SS
08-24-2009, 09:18 PM
Well, rumor is it was Heinricy's original Runoffs winning car, BUT...as convenient as it is, the original log book was lost and there's no way to really prove it. I don't think it was. He may have driven it for a race or two, but highly doubt it was his "winning" car. He did sign the rocker panel/door sil on the drivers side which he's known to do on cars he has driven. Mike Solley was the last real known driver of it and his guy Eric Jones took care of it...but originally it was prepped by Joe Aquilante at Phoenix. With the right driver, it's definitely a capable car...I just hope with seat time and coaching I can do something with it :)

Phoenix builds good cars.
The Firebird I bought from Eddie Wick was originally a Phoenix car. And probably because of that, it sold within a month.
Good find ...
The vettes at Texas Driving Experience are "T1" prepped ... springs, exhaust, Brembo brakes ... and tehy are pretty nice cars ... heavy, but nice.

That they do. Only we aren't allowed Brembo's in competition, just the stock sliders :bang:
This year we're (C5's) allowed to be 3180 min weight with fuel and driver (based off a 180 lbs driver)...I'm 195 and shrinking and there aren't many who are less than me I don't think (besides Andrew Aquilante) and I'll probably be a few over. With a 170 lbs driver in it I believe it weighed it at 3208, but I don't know how much fuel was in it (and I really don't think Scott Tucker weighs 170 :eyes: ). So after Sears I'll see where I'm at

You say you're spreading the calipers? Doesn't appear that you can run different ones, either. Hmmmm.
I wonder if running a more aggressive pad compound would help? You'd be on the brakes for less time, but I'm not sure if you'd generate any less heat.

it's common for all of the T1 guys to spread them every few races. GCR will not allow us to upgrade to any kind of safer front brake caliper because: 1) it's not within class philosophy and 2) better brakes while safer, means we can brake later/harder taking away the safer aspect :o
and I'm running Carbotech XP12/10. Kind of sucks, but oh well. They did allow us C5 guys to upgrade our front calipers to C6 Z51 calipers. I have a set waiting to go in after the next race and supposedly they are holding up pretty well for those using them

I've got the Baer caliper that's a copy of the C5 design. 2-piston, sliding pin, same pads, etc. But, it has much more ribbing. Also, I've heard that they are manufactured better. Don't know for sure.
But, I do know that with my car (2900lbs) with no ducting or cooling, I have zero issues. Same pads as you, too.
Wish they'd allow that. It probably wouldn't gain you more than 1-2 feet in braking (since it's the same pad, swept area, etc.), but they'd last much better.

that would be nice, but I don't see the GCR doing much more to help us on the issue  it was a "big enough deal" to allow us to use the C6 Z51 front calipers :o
