According to the GM servise manual it takes a M10X2.0 tap to clean the threads for the main caps. And, a M11X2.0 tap to clean the threads for the head bolts. I have not been able to find either. Well; Maco said it would be a special order for $175.00 each. Need some help getting these.
Thanks,
Rob

ARP sells the right thread chasers , do not use a tap as the threads are cut with less of a point and a standard tap will cut unecessary metal . MSC is a good place for taps and other cutting tools .

I'll check to see how much the people we get our taps from have those taps for tomorrow. Hell I might just have those but I can't sell the ones I have.

I don't believe that running a tap through the old thread will ruin them. Especially that he'll probably be starting them by hand then sending the tap the rest of the way down by a hand tap holder. At my shop I have to run the tap down the same whole twice if the clutch on the machine screws up and doesn't go all the way down the blind hole. You just have to make sure you don't cross tap the hole. Taps are taps I've only used two types of taps, they looked different but cut an identical thread. One kicks out the burr better than the other is all. That's from my experience.

Although they appear to be the same , they're not . The threads do not have the sharp peak common to most threaded holes . These are slightly rounded for strength purposes . I know you've heard of stress risers . This makes the threaded hole stronger since we don't have to worry about shearing the threads when we apply torque to the fastener .

arp's are still around $50 a pop. i simply shaved down an old head and main bolt and used that. $100 cheaper, still as effective.

Wrong size - you need M11x2.0. I just broke down and bought the Kent-Moore kit.

That's the problem - no one sells M11x2.0.
