So I'm gonna pick up an HPT after I get my winter wheel and tire setup. I've never messed with one before. What are people all changing to get the giant increases? I'm going to save the stock program to put on when I have to take the car in for whatever reason (don't know how obvious it is to the dealer that the tune isn't stock). But I'm just looking for some tips so I don't dive in blind. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

GM just released a bulletin and the TechII now has updates to recognize aftermarket tunes. It basically takes a snap shot of the current program before it even enters the pcm, if it is different automatic warranty cancelation.

The bulletin focused on Cobalts, Camaros and Dmax trucks but ultimately referenced every vehicle. GM also implemented a new program, anything major in the drivetrain (i.e., engine, trans, diff, etc.) could no longer be warranted by just dealer approval, a GM rep now comes and looks at the car prior to authorization. Sucks really, apparently they are now looking for aftermarket parts and if they find them again, warranty gets canceled. From what our rep said GM has a dished out way to much money in the past few years, especially because of aftermarket tunes.

Your best bet is if you need work done, drop the stock tune in it before you bring it in.

That was the plan. ^^ Now what do I change around?

Your best bet would be to read on the HP Tuners forum to start learning. It will likely all sound like Chinese until you get the program and you can actually see what people are talking about. Now that there are more G8's out there, it seems like the activity on that forum has picked up, so you can find some useful info. Good luck.

read the hpt forums, go through all the hpt help files and most importantly get this dvd from Greg Banish, it will be the best money you spent. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SME-DVD-1/

tune changes include more timing, volumetric efficiency to accomodate aftermarket parts, leaning out from stock (usually) to get optimum air/fuel ratio, trans torque management, shift points, etc.....

base tuning parameters include rpm limit, fan cut on/off temps, mph adjustment and top speed limiter, fuel injector sizing, etc......

When you work out all those issues you can come tune mine. I haven't upgraded my cable yet to do the G8.
Hey you should look into my exhaust I bought for my wife, she said it was too loud. You can put it on and try it to see what you think take 15 minutes and 1 wrench to put it on.

I don't have the cash right now. Saving up for Blizzaks and the HPT w/ a wideband for the T/A. That's not much louder than stock. I'm surprised she didn't like it. I don't like how quiet my car is. lol

I didn't know that the cables were any different. If I just get it for the G8 will it work for both or would I have to get a cable for the T/A?
