Hope you like my weekend build. This was done using ABS plastic and a hot air plastic welder. Air scoops were modified to allow for more air to top of filter. Now I'm ready to do a dyno tune to get all hp available from this mod. I'll keep you all posted...:)

Pic with hood closed looking in through scoop. As you can tell filter is visible.

Rain/water issues???

But looks good

Wow, that is slick! If you are worried about water ingestion maybe a valvecover type breather/filter plumbed in towards the bottom-rear-side would let any water escape the box. Post up those dyno numbers and maybe do a hood closed run too just for laughs. I'd be very interested in mph changes at the dragstrip as well. Awesome work!

It looks good, but, its gotta take on water with the scoops open. Should work very well it looks like to me. Definetly has a lot of filter area.http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_images/3/2200/81/30497540080_large.jpg

I'm pretty sure it will take on some water, but I never had a problem with my 99 ramair when i took the baffles off and ran it in the rain. I think having a good oiled K&N or charged K&N will transfer the water to the bottom of the box. Depending on how much rain I also believe the water will somewhat evaporate before it makes it all the way to the combustion chamber. I will keep yall posted next rain we have which I believe there's a 40% today.

Make some more and sell them! Nice work!

I cut through the hood brace on my Formula for the same effect. Like you, I can see the filter, so it's a direct shot of outside air. I used Velcro and some thin sheet plastic to make blockers. Testing in the rain showed I only need to use them in very heavy rain, especially at freeway speeds.

I don't think you commented on how it performed. It has a lot of filter area which is good and it unique and cool looking to say the least. Good luck and hope it works well. You difinetly have the right idea.

This is my bros car, I know he told me you can feel the difference for sure now with a crisper throttle response. He was using my dirty filter off of my car as a refrence to making the dimensions on the box. Then when he bought his own he noticed another difference. lol i guess i need to clean my filter. You can also hear the car breath now its sounds much sexier imo.

As far as testing it at the track i know he has not gone again since before the mod.

As far as performance like my brother mentioned I do feel the crisper throttle response, but the best part is that on top end I can feel a better pull throughout the rpm range. I know for a fact that my mph has improved significatly. One thing I do notice is that at a certain mph it seems like the cars throttle fluctuates on its own like if the MAF is gettign to much air or doesn't know what's going on. I'm getting the car tuned this friday so that should fix the whole MAF calibration which I believe to be causing that.

Well it seems that what I'm feeling that fluctuates is actually my DOD going in and out around 65-75mph. It seem that with the CAI just like other mods the DOD is more evident. I will more then likely have the tuner turn this function off...

Ok guy's after several weeks of runing my custom built CAI even in the rain. Everything seems to be runing like stock no problems in heavy rain even while racing.lol
Here are the new pic's with a drain and relocated IAT on the box.

Ran a hose from the drain to the bottom of the car so the belt wouldn't get wet...
