I don't think they are a grade of aluminum to be Tigged onto to. Look almost diecast, I don't have any spares anymore or I would go and try it.

I tigged on mine. You got to get all the oil residue out of them. It is tricky and not the prettiest, but it worked.

Welded mine no problem, just lots of acetone and wire brushing. Get them CLEAN!

Ed, I watch my bud do powdercoating on used alum parts.
The first thing is a grease remover dunk.
Then, they go in the oven at 400*, while other items are baking.
Once cooled, they are glas beaded w/ alum oxide, and then coated.
I noticed that the cooking produces some NASTY stains, residue coming to the surface.
I'm wondering if a similar process would enhance the chances of welding going well?? [Or, at least better than a wash job only.]
I imagine the wife would throw a fit w/ them in the oven!!:judge:
[Just another reason I'm single!]

Yeah when I was powder coating, I would always do a pre bake on aluminum to get the contaminants out. Learned that lesson real quick with au.

We just welded up the coil bolt holes on a set today. Milled the bosses off, then welded up the holes. Gonna try engraving and powder coating em. If they turn out purty, I'll post pictures.

I did that to my old stock valve covers. Cut off the bosses, welded the groves and holes shut, ground it all flat, bondo and paint, and they turned out ok. They got warped a bit by the welds in the long grooves.

thats just a matter of alternating where youre welding. gotta do it just like body welding so it doesnt overheat and warp
