Has any one seen or heard of a sort of conversion or mod that would make the back seats in a G8 fold down like they should?? Man did GM miss the boat on that one.

The center piece folds down exposing the trunk, you can't fold down the left and right seat because there's a metall wall behind it.

Ya, I know, thats so stupid, GM touts how this car is 'better' then a BMW, well, does the BMWs seats fold down.

In this day and age, there is no reaso why a car like that doesnt have fold down seats. The centre part folding down is just a waste of time.

I was actually thinking of putting this car on my radar, but when I seen this issue I dont want one.

Your gonna let a beautiful car, one of the best GM has ever given us. One even Magazine editors all over the globe has praised (name 5 other GM products they have in the last 20 years) and everyone that has driven it loved it pass because the damn rear seat doesn't fold down. Whatever man, that's just crazy. Trust me coming from the Grand Prix world (9 years worth of SC 3.8l and 1 5.3l) that was one of the first things I noticed was the non-folding rear seat, next to the non HUD. But just like the HUD, since Sept 2008 and owning my G8 GT I never missed the fold down seat. If it is something that big I use a different vehicle, I don't have a truck but know many a people that do.

Im not trying to say the car isnt cool. Its damn cool. For me, if Im spending $30,000+ on a car, I need to get some practicality out of it. I am 'fortunate' enough to drive my wifes 98 Buick Century right now, and that cars back seats do not fold down, and that is a MAJOR inconvience. Not to mention that car is a huge POS, sheer garbage, and if it burnt down I take time off work to celebrate.

Like I said, the G8 GT is a wicked cool car, just not practical for me. Im not trying to insult your ride, far from it.

Why are you comparing a $27,000 car for a $40,000 one? 2nd why the heck do you care about fold down seats so bad, get yourself and SUV if you need that much room, if you're logging around crap you're looking at the wrong type of car. This thing has a huge trunk.

Page 4. Im not the one comparing this car to a BMW, GM is.

I do have an SUV, but when you are at the store and you want to buy a certain item and then you realize, 'Oh crap I cant cuz I got this car that doesnt have seats that fold down'. I am not saying Im 'logging' around a bunch of stuff, its for the times I just mentioned...you stroll into Ikea, and theres a nice book shelf that your wife wants, and you cant bring it home cuz of the seats.

@ hawk584, I love the sawzall too.....I call mine 'the widowmaker' just to scare the wife.

There have been some love-hate issues in my G8 ownership experience.
I am still hanging on but I may be getting another car 2-4 years from now.

There are some really really awesome things about this car and some bad.

Some bad:
The car just isn't as fast as it should be and I wish the handling was better. It is retarded that I can get spanked by a firebird with exhaust work and good tires. I rationalize this as it is super comfy and fun to drive. Very grown up. Appearently, the caster is not adjustable either. Fun times.

The car has a lot of cheap plastics. This doesn't make me that upset overall as the interior is better than anything I have owned to date. I don't care about GPS/NAV or widgets so the lack of all of those doesn't even bother me.

19's + small width on this horsepower level are idiotic! It is ok 90% of the time when I am driving like an adult. They do look very good as well.

It is a great car overall. I might fall into the category of the guy that should of gotten the Corvette but it is hard to take people to lunch in a Corvette and I don't like Yukons, ect.

As mentioned earlier a HUD would really of made the driving experience a lot better.
One other widget that would of been nice is a headlight height adjuster. Not automatic. Just a dial where you can turn them up higher or aim them lower. I think that should be on any car like this even if driver orientated.
Or an optional gauge package.
Is Homelink too much to ask for? It would be useful...

I hear ya STREETRACEGUY, but where I live, going back to the store is a pain, its not just a 5 minute drive. Im just saying that its probly not the car for ME, with those seats. I am a very particular car buyer, and if I dont like a few certain things about a car, I dont want it. These seats being one of them.

Im not trying to offend anyone....'Im just sayin is all'.

There are always going to be ups and down from a vehicle, realize they had to cut corners to get costs to where they are, as for speed stop comparing 2 door sports cars to a 4 door sedan, if that's the case get a GXP, plenty of HP There, and few bolt ons will always make a difference, the stock tires on a firebird would kill them anyway.

What is really funny is when your tires start wearing funny and the GM dealer tells you that alignments aren't covered after 7K miles.

And the solution to the steering wheel shake, RF balancing, will cost you 50 dollars.

My Trans Am WS6 had fold down seats and cost over 30k... great car and not very practical either.

Not sure the big deal with fold down back seats???

The trunk is so huge on the G8 and with the center part of the back seat folder down like an Audi A4/S4 I can haul snow skis and the flags for my kids soccer games.

Personally I find having a G8 GT with a 6.0 litre that has plenty of power and power potential to be great. Also having a weight distribution of 52/48 is awesome and totally competes with any BMW for sport vehicle. But I guess it does lack the AWD that we fins in the x series of BMW. But then to get that you need over 45k.

Now, I got a car that costs as much as my Trans Am did and I got four doors for my two kids. Enough room in the trunk for my tool box, two soccer bags, soccer balls, and groceries. It has heated seats and bluetooth as well as satelite radio. And that does not even touch on other things that blow away most other vehicles in the same price range. I am only scratching the surface here.

Now if I want a truck I would get a Chrysler because I really like the Aspen. But... I prefer the G8. Best car I have ever owned and the most practical.

not having the option to have a HUD killed the g8 for me, the hell if i should have to pay onstar to get there shitty directions. or buy a tacky garmin to sunction cup to the windshield. little things that GM skimps on to save money turn down buyers, it could be argued that people wouldnt spend the extra money for more amenities but at least offer it as an option not make every single car the exact same. the reason i went with the V is that it has EVERYTHING.....heated seats, hid's, leather, navigation, sunroof, bose 8 speaker sound system, FOLD DOWN SEATS(even though i have never used them)and more and it was all standard, there were no options because it already had everything.

I disagree...

Why?

The Big 3 are having to make changes to compete with companies like Toyota. Toyota does not offer every option under the sun, they have a few to choose from and that is it. GM on the other hand has so many options that they lose money so you can choose more. Yet, they lose people to Toyota still.

No... options are going away and we will have fewer options and not more. Time to get used to that fact.

Wow, yeah i don't think you should be comparing a caddy to the Pontiac, are they even anywhere near the same price range, i love that V though, real nice car.

i got my 05 V with 34k miles mint condition , certified from the dealer with a warranty until june 2011 for 25500 out the door. im not trying to bash the G8 by any means i liked the car and would have bought it if it would have had a few minor changes. I think people chose foreign cars strictly for reliability. How many cavaliers have 250k miles compared to honda civics? not many, GM built many cars poorly IMO to sell the cheapest possible product, and the way they limit the options would help them if they strategically made the right amount of cars with options

The g8 missed having nav by about 1/2" of a inch. The current entertainment center is 1/2" of a inch to low for usdot requirements and caused them to deny gm to bring the nav over that the g8 uses in au from what i read.
