Dyno & Bench Racing Forum - 09 m3?

So, I was challenged by a guy that works with a girl that I know. Supposedly he has a bone stock M3, that she thinks is a 09 model. Without knowing my mods, he has already asked, overconfidently I might add, that we both throw down $1,000 and race...winner takes all. I looked up some numbers on the car..but I'm looking for real life experiences/opinions, before I throw in that kind of cash.
My mods are in sig.

if your ballin like that, do it. if you run him from a dig you should be able to yank him pretty hard, but he will most likely catch you in the top end...say 120+. those are top end monsters.
but then again, anything can happen on the street.
id go get a nitrous kit, not tellem, blow his doors and collect some money.

you have longtubes and a tune basically? do you have a good tire? even from a dig you have you hands full with your mods.
i think you would be very surprised by that m3 (if he can drive).
wrong forum, too... this thread will probably get moved.

If he can drive at all whatsoever, you're gonna get spanked.

Yea I forsee a spanking in your future, they may not have much torque but those cars are insane, did a few highway runs with one of my friends and he waxed me BAD each time

I get a lot of BS called But, I raced a 2009 M3 two door auto probably, and i pulled on him ever so slightly to 120 starting from 65 or so. I have full exhaust, lid, and slight tune (added some fuel and air is all). So I would say depends on driver and so on. I also pulled a stock vert cobra when i had a lid and catback is all...so who knows.
seems like they can trap from 110 to 115 haha

You found some bad drivers, both of those cars should have eaten you. Either way the OP should NOT put any cash on it.

maybe....maybe not. when i was trapping 108 in tucson with 6300ft da a cobra that was stock was trapping 104.....so i guess thats two bad drivers. well as long as im ahead of the curve.

There's no maybe about it. A 03-04 Cobra should never... ever trap lower than a mild bolt-on A4 LS1

the e90/e92 m3 is easier to drive to the max unlike our car, even if he's a bad driver.
so don't put cash on the race unless you have nitro ready on your car.

I guess I should have listed my mods than relying on my sig.
LID, Ported TB, LTs, catback, drag radials (hook really well on the streets). I also have a great tune. Never took it to the track. Closest comparison to this car I can give, is that Ive beat a late 90s (?) M5 on numerous runs. I know they weight a bit more though.
I was also thinking about buying a kit real quick, spraying it, and collecting the cash.

Sorry man I had the op's car in my head :emb: I'm not trying to call you out either, it's just that with equal drivers and conditions the Cobra should come out on top. But we all know things don't always happen as they should. Again to the OP don't put that kind of money up unless you plan to spray on him.

I gotcha man i know your not trying to call anyone out, but a vert termi isnt that fast in stock form. I'm usually the last person to post up things that dont make sense haha, i could really get you boiled if i told you of a certain 2door audi i pulled lol. oh man i miss scottsdale and az. But now that I'm here in Texas the car scene is nice. I plan to hit up Houston sometime, I'll let you know when I do.

Thanks for the imput guys. I just found out that it may not even be an 09...but an older model. It's for a rich kid, and his father bought him the car. Keep you guys posted.

How much did you put down to the ground OP? Any track times?
The E92 M3's are nothing to take too lightly.

New M3's are putting down 400+ at the crank from factory. Mainly a top end car so go from a dig. They're running mid 12's in the 1/4 out of the box.
NSSANE02
09-14-2009, 11:37 PM
Don't they 0-60 mid 4's? I wouldn't call that a top end only car.

the e46 is about par with ls1, they run 13.3-13.5 stock. it will be an interesting race with the edge on the OP's car

from what i have seen and my personal experience its a drivers race with a full bolt on ls1 vs a stock e90/e92 m3 with the edge going to the M3, but dont go from a dig they do have launch control and they take off like a bat outta hell from a dead stop

the op's car should go 12.7 at around 110 give or take a little. The op's car will have more trap speed, a harder launch thanks to the drag radials & auto trans, and he wont have to worry about missing a gear. Plus he is racing a kid who's daddy bought him the car i bet he cant drive all that well. I think the op's car takes the a stock e46 all day even if the m3 has a good driver.

I was going to mention that feature. I would love to see a dig race between the two.

If it's and older model he should take it no doubt. He was talking about a new one though, if that's the case it wouldn't end well for him.

ya a lot would depend on how the kid drives, i would want a unit or a camfordec induction before i would accept the offer. Even then i would not like racing for that kind of money. you dont want to be out $1k because you lost from a broken transmission which migh end up costing you another $2,500.
If thats a new m3 you will loose. I raced one a while back after my camswap and it was a good race. Went from about 40mph roll to 130 and I put about 2cars on him. It was a brand new one with 11k miles and all he did was have a exhaust on it. If he could drive, I don't see see you winning. The car I raced with just a exhaust ran a 12.6 at 113. Im sure stock they're still a 12second car so I would watch it.

from what i have seen online they are usually 12.9-12.5 cars that trap from 110-115.

update:
jcws6-25 and I went and checked out the dude's ride today. Its not the E92 M3. Its the body style before that one. I didn't get to see under the hood or anything, but when I had my girl tell him that I was up for it, he quickly started backing down.
Now he says, that only way he'd race with $1,000 cash on the line...is if I gave him a 7 car length handicap. :eyes:
Regardless...I'm going meet this guy Sunday night hopefully. I'll just tell him to forget about the cash, and race for fun. Hopefully I can tape it.
