im looking at a 2002 t/a. its got a salvaged title and body damage. i test drove it and it drives well. i got him down to 7700. i got estimates on what its gonna take to get the body damage fixed and the lowest estimate was 1200 to 1300. the t/a is fully loaded, automatic, 77000 miles. what do you guys think

I wouldn't pay anywhere close to that for a salvage vehicle. Granted mine is a 98 but I paid 10.5 for mine with 49k bone stock 2 1/2 years ago....
If it is only $1200 in damage this is the second wreck.....Run......

Agreed, search Cars.com and Auto Trader and I think you will be surprised what you can buy in these tough times.

the 1200-1300 was the lowest quote i got. the highest was 1800-1900. i went to a few other shops and they were all in the middle of those two estimates. not sure if that changes anything. im definately going to carfax the vin and see what comes.

Have the aliment checked at a GOOD shop. If that checks out and you are willing to pay to fix it go for it. However around here that can get you a LS1 with a clean title and decent miles. I paid 8000 for the Formula in my sig with 55000 miles on it. Good luck with the searching.

I would never buy a salvage title car/truck just for the fact that whenever you go to sell it, it wont be worth shit.
Salvage cars are only good for one thing....cutting them up and making a race car out of!

Run away. Fast, simple as that. To many other ls1's out there for that much money.

is it salvaged because of the wreck it was recently in? If so you most likely would have frame damage and that will cost 1200-1800 alone.

Why carfax it? it has a SALVAGE title. Doesn't matter if it bumped something at 5mph or 55mph. The state has branded it JUNK and NOBODY will touch this car when you go to sell it. You will lose your ass on it. Plus depending on your insurance company, they may not even insure it.
If you only have $7700 to spend go buy a 80-100k mile non-wrecked clean as you can find 98-99 Z28 or TA. They are EVERYWHERE for $8000 or less.

Like just about everyone else said, dont do it. You should be able to find something very easily in that price range with similar miles thats not been wrecked. It may not be 01-02 but look around, theres good deals out there on some nice cars. You may have to spend a lil more too to get what you want but its worth it in the long run.
