Pontiac G8 2008-2009 - Who has a hack or download from AUS to make the Screen a NAV screen

I sure hope there is a company out there work on the flash to do so. I would guess that there would be plenty of bandwidth to run the NAV and XM at the same time anyway. Our G8's stereo flaked out within a week and had to have it replaced. I tried to have my local GM tech to flash it with a Aussie program but he wouldn't. Not sure if it would even work but I'd try it if I had the resources. Anyone have any more info on this?

Thanks

Well after looking through holdens website it looks like the nav unit might be the same as our radio unit.

Maybe it is just a software thing, but where are the maps stored since this unit does not have a dvd player in it. Does it have some sort of internal memory and if it does who has the maps for the usa?

Wouldn't you also need the transponder? What would it cost to order everything through Holden?

From what I understand the Holden nav setup doesnt have US maps available.

if the holden nav unit uses dvds as the maps then you could just purchase the us maps from the same dvd company

You can buy what you need from Oz for the hefty price of $1300 USD but you will also need VIM working othewise add about another $400. Not sure if shipping is included:

another route you could look into would be the VIM (video in motion) + in car pc. then the sky's the limit to what you'd like to do.

All good ideas, however, I want to use the factory equipment. I personally think that the stock stereo is very lacking in many things. So if I wanted to upgrade it I would just go crazy and add everything it needed. I was just hoping that the factory hardware could be reprogrammed to work. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Maybe someone will figure this out yet.

Another option is to buy the "integrated NAV" setup. this allows you to permanently mount a handheld GPS:

do some searching in some of the g8 specific boards. You can't do this in our cars because the Au versions have a touch screen. Ours isn't. Without importing their unit it won't work. The feds wouldn't let us use the nav function in our cars because the screen is mounted too low. Not very many options and none of them are cheap. Good luck.

You can actually integrate a touch screen overlay and add Navigation software via a car PC via the stereo's Aux function.
