I've been a civilian for almost a complete year now.. It wasn't that bad when I was still back in Alamogordo, because I was in a military community... I'm now back in CT, sold my house, and attending University of Hartford for a Bach Degree in Computer Engineering. I'm around these kids, constantly, and it's just been really difficult for me to accept that I'm a civilian now.. I was medically discharged 2 months after I reenlisted. :( I was 1/2 and 1/2 about wanting to stay in. But now that I'm out, I just feel like I was institutionalized for the past 6 years.

I just want to go back to Afghanistan, I just want to go back to work.

I got MED boarded out last year.... AFTER I reenlisted for another 6. And to get commissioned, I'd need a degree which I am working on now.. I was diagnosed with Asthma about a year after I got back from Afghanistan, I've never had it before.

I just got screwed so bad during my last couple months in, so I don't miss that.

Have you thought about contracting? Especially if you have a clearance, you can make a ton of money doing the same shit you were in the military. We had a guy whos job it was to go into the TOC and control the JLENS (big giant security camera), he made 6 figures...

Depending on your MOS various contractors should have opportunities for you. I have been out 10 years and had them calling me up until about 2 years ago.

I hate every fucking second I was stuck on BAF and Manas, theres nothing like going from 6 months in combat to big blue golf cart uniform police.

I don't know a lot about the contracting process, I know more about the security contracts since we worked with some of them, but there were a lot of contractors on my fob. We had a former Marine commo troop doing the jlens thing, a couple cops serving as "law enforcement professionals" who went out on missions and basically they treated firefights like crime scenes, they would take the finger prints and stuff of any dead hajis to see if they were on a wanted list or something. Obviously you got the Blackwater/Triple Canopy guys. If you have a Secret or higher clearance you can get a job doing something for sure.

I was stuck in BAF for almost 2 weeks waiting for Army to figure out what exactly they wanted to do with us AF people. Finally moved out to where i'm supposed to be.
