So, after I took my entire AIR system out, I noticed 2 things...

1) The HUGE space that could fit a BIG cone-style filter where the AIR motor was

2) The air inlet in the front bumper, to where the AIR was

I know LT1s had similar set-ups, but would routing the 3" piping to a HUGE K&N filter down there get more HP/TQ as opposed to the lid?

I have an SLP lid, ported TB, TB bump-stop mod, EGR/AIR delete... I know I should be more concerned about exhaust, LTs, ORY etc etc, but this question came to me randomly.

The lid is actually a very good design for an air intake. It's a straight shot into the TB. The setup you are talking about would have bends in it. That factor alone is enough reason to stick with the lid.
