Military Hotrod Club - New Chapter 33 GI Bill
Is anyone else waiting for their payments to come in? The 4-6 week wait I was told about has turned into a 12+ week wait.

Yeah, its bullshit as usual. The VA was pretty bad under Chapter 30 and its even worse with Chapter 33. I registered for all my classes and had everything turned in August 24th (I had to wait till then since I'm a transfer student) and I just got confirmation last Friday that my info had been sent to the VA. They say there's a 30-45 day wait (like you said) but I'm not gonna hold my breath. Hopefully some money will show up in my account by the end of November. I'm just glad I took some student loans cause if I'd just been relying on the GI bill money I'd be screwed.

That's where I'm at...screwed.
I learned the hard way that the VA rep at the college is basically worthless, incompetent, and probably just confused about life in general.
I thought I was being pro active signing up two months in advance, but due to the horribly inaccurate info I got from the college's VA rep, I'm hurting for money. I know I'm not alone, but I'd like to hear of at least one person getting through "the system."

I sent in my stuff July 28th!!!! It got processed on Aug 14th, sent back to my school Aug 27th, back to the VA on Sept 2nd and approved for payment on Sept 14th or 15th (cant remember right now) and Im still waiting on payment. I got to a smaller school and the VA rep has been down right amazing. He has promised every single Ch 33 user that he will call us when the school gets paid because it happens approx 2 days before we see our money.
Also, yall do know that the VA is going to cut emergency checks of up to $3k for students using the Ch 33 benefits right?? If not, check out www.newgibill.org for updates. Its run by the IAVA and its the best place for information.

Holy crap, thank you so much for that link! I turned mine in before you, and it just made it to the VA on Sept. 11th (of all days!), coincidently, two days after I emailed my VA rep on what progress was being made....
I'm going to make flyers right now and post them at my school. Thanks again.

No problem at all. Its a HUGE PITA and Im just happy to pass on the info.
Sadly, this isnt the only thing Im fighting with the VA either.

Yeah, and I'm going to pass this info on as well. Thanks again!
Sucks that it is so hard to get anything done with them. I love the VA and I'm glad they're around, but I don't know if it's "the system" or the personnel, or what. You have to fight tooth and nail to get anything done. Good luck with whatever you're going through, I hope it gets resolved.

BTW, I just applied online. Its super easy and takes maybe 4 minutes to set up an account. I wonder how long itll take to get the check in the mail.

I am in same "Screwed" boat as you guys. I paid for my books out of pocket and it really put me in the poor house. I am counting on that money to come in anyday now, but seeing how the VA is notoriously slow im not holding my breath...

I paid for books AND two months rent out of pocket. Im very lucky I saved enough because I knew this would happen.
Just got back from the VA Regional Office here in Houston. I got there at about 8:30 and left at about 12:30 with a check in my hand for $3000.00!! There were probably about 200-250 others there in line, and they're expecting more than that tomorrow.
Not only that, but two checks were waiting for me when I got home.

I did mine online. It says it could take up to a week to get here and I dont need the cash right now so Im not going to drive almost 2 hours to my nearest regional office.

Yeah, they said 6-8 days for online applications. I'm not too far from the VA Office, so I sure didn't mind. Good luck to ya!

The VA is so far behind with this new program. I just got a letter from them in the mail today saying that I was entitled to this much money and I had to do this to get it (basically everything I did weeks ago). It was nice seeing how much money I'll be getting whenever they send it out. Quite a bit more than Chapter 30, let's just say that.
And for anyone that hasn't applied for the Horatio Alger scholarship make sure you do so before too long. I think its worth $5k so check it out.

I guess there's finally some money getting passed around, and I'm not talking about those emergency checks. They deposited my book money and housing money for August and September. Now I just need that tuition reimbursement and I'll be all set.

I heard about the VA giving out the $3K checks. I think i may have to go do that, i just missed a mortgage payment...
I heard up to 6 weeks after the start of school from our VA lady at school and if im right, that would be before the end of next week? WTF VA!
Anyways, for those who have gotten the GI bill before, is it like this every year? Or is it only like this when starting back up? Reason i ask is i will be activating for tech school in january and im wanting to get right back to school when im done... i just dont want to have to wait another 2-3 months for money to start flowing...

Its this sudden huge influx of new students for a new program. Apparently they didnt expect so many vets to use the CH 33 program.

Mine's always taken about this long. This is my 3rd semester using GI benefits but the first under Ch. 33.

Anyone else? Its been 5 weeks since school started, they said it was a 4-6 week wait from the first day of school. Pretty much right on the money!

I haven't gotten anything yet. I applied for the emergency check, maybe I will see that this week. It was AUG 15 when I initially applied.
This is the 3rd Semester I have used my VA benefits and it has been a fight every time to get them to pay.

Im very interested in this.
I am still enlisted, but have 8 months till my ETS date.
From my understanding, i have to apply for the new GI bill, while im still in, correct?
Im really wanting to attend WyoTech, Is there anything that would prevent me from attending a tech school?
They pay the school, and give you single e5 BAH, thats nuts!!

Applied Sept. 11th, got an approval letter from VA, then got denied by NPC. Assholes, everyone tells you to use all these great benefits, then you try and it's three miles of bs and loopholes. After 10 years I'm on med hold awaiting my discharge date for med-ret. and they say I/ my wife can't use it until after I'm retired, when my status changes. Oh well.

If you are active you get it paid while you are on duty. Get the service to pay for it while you are still in. No need to use your benefits.
