And its just about time too, cause my clutch is limping by. I really wanted to hit the drag strip this year, but by about May, my clutch was engaging pretty far out, so i kind of babied the car all summer, due to lack of funds for a clutch.

My "Hot Rod" season has always been Apr 15th - Oct 15th.

But the last 2 weeks in October were beautiful last year. I'm going to let the Weather Network's 14-day trend make the call this year.

I finished up the 408 twin turbo swap last year in mid october and drove it till about mid november but it was pretty stupid and just about lost it a few times even though was trying to be mellow with it for break in ,but you can only be so mellow with that type of power.

This year am planning to drive it till end of october but put it down a few weeks ago waiting on 4l80 as took out the t56 as had it presold. With luck finish swap and still maybe get a week or two to drive it then of course away for winter. Nomally cars are plated apri1 to oct 31.

Looking really cold with bit of snow out here lately so don't feel like missing much right now with car in garage undriveable.

End of October for me. Usually the first weekend after October I winter up, put away the fast cars, put away the lawnmower and get the snowblower ready. This year I'm pulling the LT1 out to do a rebuild over the winter months.

on the cars i dont drive in the winter (3) I will drive them ALL up until the First Snow Storm. Right before they salt the roads, theyn the get put away, so for me it ranges from anywhere from Nov 15th ish til late december. I think putting them away on a certain date is rediculous. Drive them as long as you can. These cars were meant to be driven, not sitting in a garage. I will be driving my 98 LS1 M6 camaro all year round, but not my 85 IROC. Also will be drving my extremly clean and zero rust 84 Silverado 2500 in the winter. As long as you wash them once a week you will be fine. Remember, you cannot take these cars with you when you die. Drive em!!!

^^ you have a good point there, but i do not want to die driving my car, when it is wet outside or very cold the car does not want to hook, even when overtaking on the highway. as soon as u hit boost you better be fucking ready, otherwise the car that you sunk all this money in to will end up in a ditch or even worse, in somebody's toyota prius. i put mine away october 10th, it was a disappointing summer but what can you do, jsut hope we have a proper summer next year.

I've driven mine every winter since new. Rustproofing is your friend.

And not all of us have the space for a beater. And I don't have the inclination to drive around in a POS for 4-5 months of the year.

And on the plus side, driving an f-body in fresh snow is wicked fun.

ya but so does a beater...I bet the detuned camaro would be faster then the beater, and you can still enjoy some aggressive driving when the roads are dry and clean....Rust proofing, and washing the car about once a week/1.5 weeks will take care of any issues...I mean, if your car is a show car and you drive it strictly on weekends thats one thing...but if you daily drive it in the spring/summer/fall...the car is really not going to rot out much if any as long as you take care of it.

Plus like stated, not everyone has room or the money to store the car...I know personally I couldnt put mine away simply for the love of it...I remember when I tore the rear end apart at the track this summer...took me 3weeks to get it on the road and operational again...for the last 1.5 weeks I had a 2007 Lexus IS350 at my disposal (which are no slouches and very nice cars) ...I still couldn't wait to get mine back on the road...Bugged the hell out of me to see it on jackstands in the drive every day I came home...almost lost my damn mind...Hell, Im fretting putting the car down for 4 days to do my big project sometime this winter!!

Car will last a little longer with rustproofing, but driving it in the winter will cause permanent damage.

On a wet, salted highway, that spray is such a fine mist that it wil get into EVERY itty-bitty little crack and seam, way beyond anywhere that the rustproofing could protect it.

Another downside to rustproofing is that the same oil that protects the metal also damages anything that's rubber (bushings, hoses, wires, etc.).

Rust on an F-body is particularily misleading since the body is plastic (except the roof and 1/4's).

It really depends on what your long term plans are for your car. If it's a daily driver that your going to sell in a few years, go ahead and drive it all year round. If you plan on loving it in the future, better put it into hibernation.

In Vancouver, running thru the winter. I figure on: getting four good winter tires on my stock rims while the after-market rims and performance tires take a rest, keeping some weight in the back, staying close to home (which means out of the mountains), taking it easy, and if the snow gets too deep (which it may or may not, who knows around here) finding another way to work for the few days that'll happen if it does. I'm not too worried, grew up driving rear-drive, the car behaves completely normal to me... except it goes fast.

I drove a 92 Camaro RS, 100 KM each way through backroads. 4 Snows on it, 2 sand bags in the back, and I drove through snow that packed the headlight buckets. Never ONCE got stuck/lost it.

RWD in winter FTW.

Yup. Great to learn how to drive rwd in the winter. It teaches you how the car will behave at the limit of tire adhesion in the summer months. Learning how to drive on snow with no TCS prepares you for the worst in the summer :) ...and my car still isn't away. FML!

Love the CCW's.

What kind of times did you run?

Thanks!

The numbers were a big disappointment. The clutch seemed to be slipping at the top end. I was seeing my shift light at 1200ft and that should have been 128mph. I was trapping 119-121. My light should be very accurate too as it is tied directly to the Big Stuff output. So my best was only a 11.7@121. I made 4 passes as I became suspect of the clutch on the 2nd pass and used them to make sure.

I need to pull the clutch and adjust the fingers to lower the clutch engagement.

The driveability is just amazing though. No bucking or anything at 1450 in 6th gear. Really nice to drive. It is really quiet too with a very smooth idle that seemd to surprise people when I told them it had a 260 cam in it. :eek2:

Your car looks unbelievable with the CCW's on it Dale. Didn't you say something about being down on power with the harrop over the single plane? I remember at Addison you saying it was going to get pulled off and ported. As for driveability, I thought it had a 240 cam in it when I saw it, even with the idle! :eek2: Didn't know the ITB's could calm down a 260 cam that much.

The carbed single plane made 626fwhp 600fwtq, the Harrop made 631fwhp and 646fwtq.

We are going to port the living pee out the intake over the winter. The cam is a 259/266 .648/.648 112+ 4 by Cammotion and it is amazing what the idle is like and still do not have a functioning IAC, it never stalls on coast down either. I am not sure why it works but it works. The dead IAC does cause some starting issues. Once it catches it really needs the extra air and it is not there. So I have to feather the throttle for 30-40 secs till it starts to warm the chamber. It idles rough at 700-800rpm and as it warms up the idle climbs to 950.

I will get that sorted over the winter too. Right now I just want to enjoy it for the few weeks or days I have left before the hibernation. :-)
