Convertible Vehicles - car cover

do I need to cover the ragtop with plastic and then put the cover on? just concerned about the fibers attaching to the black top.

Good Question, I had a tan top and never worried about it but now I have a black top and I notice a lot of stuff like our dogs white hair (dalmatian) I would say YES if you plan on leaving it covered all winter, also those 3m lint roller things work good to get the junk off your top.

The only thing that would concern me about puting plastic on it is moister getting under the plastic and mildewing.

Man I read your post & it's crazy,I use the 3m lint roller (works pretty good) & I have a dalmation!
To the op If your covering it inside a garage or building I would say yes! but
if your having to leave out side the plastic may get water under it & mildew!

mine has already mildewed so i'm not too concerned, lol.

but when i get a new top, maybe i will look into putting plastic on it. good idea guys

I'd take lint over mildew any day.

If you have a dry garage, plastic probably won't hurt. But I really don't think it's necessary. Get a cover that doesn't leave much lint.

mine's covered daily, no lint or anything. I use one of the basic "Budge" brand grey covers from Autozone. Works fine and never leaves any fuzzy stuff or anything.

Smart! I have 3 verts and NO plastic. That invites trouble. I also am in the lint roller club like so many others. It works great and takes about 2 minutes to get rid of dust, threads, hairs, anything.

Yeah the lint roller I use is just a cheaper one with the peel off sticky paper and it works great.

Yep, same thing I use on all my cars now. They seem to last on the cars outside for about 3 years and then I buy another one. They seem to be a treated nylon, doesn't leave lint and I haven't seen it effect the paint. My friend has a high dollar fabric cover on his 56 BelAir and it is leaving buff marks you can see in the black paint.

I tried the ones that felt like some type of treated paper, not sure what the stuff was, stay away from those, they just tear. They come in either blue or grey....

The cover must be breathable, I ended up going with a waterproof breathable cover from Empire Car Covers I was going to go with cover king, but it looks like the same cover, but $100 bucks cheaper.

I have a california car cover for mine, it doesnt leave lint on my top. And again, my car doesnt stay outside over night......

If you are worried about lint on a black top then just get something black that can breath. I would take a black bed sheet and lay that down before applying the car cover. I am sure you can pick one up at Walmart for a few bux ;)
