Hi,

I got a rear wheel drive car (G8) and have summer tire wheels and winter tire wheels.
So, I learned that I should torque at 125 Ft lbs (staring from 30, 60).

So, I got a Craftsman clicker wrench (25-150 FT lbs). Only after I bought it I looked at the online review on the Sears web site. It looks like the consensus is that the wrench is pretty bad.

So, I'm want to return it and find a replacement.
So far, I found a Husky at HD. However, it is a 50-250. I couldn't start out at 30 ft lbs.

Can your recommend a DIY torque wrench? Since I will not use it very often I was hoping to stay in $100.- range (if possible).

You could go with a Beam type, which is inexpensive or a KD torque wrench.

Thanks!

Looking at the KD web site I'm realizing I don't know much about torque wrenches. They have:
- torque-rite
- spring loaded
- locking ring

How does a torque-rite work? Is there a difference between spring loaded and locking ring? Is the locking ring simply locking the current torque setting?

What is the warranty for KD?

napa sells impact sockets for wheels. these things are badass! say you want to torque to 90lbs.you pick that particular socket out of the kit and install it on the impact and it wont let you go past the specified torque!

What if he doesn't have an impact wrench and/or an air compressor?

Where did you read that craftsman was bad? I've had one for years now and just recently compared it to my other 2 torque wrenches to check calibration. It was dead on. One thing to remember, ALWAYS return it to zero when finished.

I have the one you linked us to and a Craftsman 250lb. model that I've never had a problem with. The reviews would certainly raise a question in my mind if I were in the market though.
