Cadillac CTS-V 2004-2009 - having issues when shifting in to reverse

I have a 2004 CTS-V and I'm having an issue when trying to shift into reverse. It's as if there is not enough room while I try to engage it into reverse. The shifter seems to be rubbing on the side of the center console thingy.
When it does go into reverse it seems to pop out from time to time. If I try to hold it in there it starts to grind. :bang:
When I put it into first it's as if I have at least an inch between the shifter and the center console.
Want to know whether or not this is a common problem with the V's and if anyone knows a quick fix to the issue.
Thanks

If I understand right, this happens to me once in a while too. If you just put the car in first and roll forward a bit it will go into reverse much easier afterwards, hope that made sense. I just installed a B&M short throw shifter that I got from ebay and I love it.

and don't bother taking it to the dealer under warranty...GM says thats NORMAL. Last thing I asked was "so you are saying its normal for my wife to not be able to get the car into 1st or R at times when stopped?" I guess I'll be doing this along w/ a new shifter one day myself.

That is completely normal. Put it in neutral, let out the clutch, push the clutch back in and put it in first or reverse. I've owned 10 manual cars in my life and they all have done this.
When you are stopped and have the clutch in for too long(or other situations, doesnt have to be that), the gears stop turning and don't line up. If you put it in neutral and let out the clutch it gets one side spinning so when you go to put it in gear, the synchros can do their job.

I would put mine back in first or go 5th then back to reverse seemed to work for me pretty ez doing that. I also had the B&M shifter in mine =(

i understand what you are saying, but I'll say the exact same thing I said to the dealer last time:
"why in the world would a $50k car not go into gear?" My wife hates driving it because of that fact. Everything I own is straight shift back to the 70's MG and the CTS-V is the worst shifter of all.
Put an end to it myself, just got off the phone with Luke Lindsay at Lindsay Cadillac and ordered the UUC shifter and Bushings. I really wanted the Katech shifter but the bushings are the problem.
Capown...you need the bushings man, that's why your B&M is doing the same crap the stocker does.

The bushing work with the katech, uuc, and B&M. They don't attatch on the shifter itself.
Also, shifter/bushings won't end the problem but it will help a little. I had my trans replaced because of this issue and I had a katech with bushings in there. Once the trans was replaced the problem was gone.

gotch...I just ordered the bushings and UUC because I didn't want to buy from two different places. If Katech had the bushings I would have bought from them per quote I got from them just this morning. Sorry to hear you had to replace the tranny.

Does anyone have any driving experiences on both the Katech and UUC?
I have the same problem with mine. I can get it in to R if I put it back in 1st and then move it to R, but it just seems crazy that I should have to do this. I'd like to hear if anyone has driven on both to give an opinion, because I will certainly be ordering something.
