Is it a fixed roof or a hatch? the 01-04 Z06 had the LS6 with 385-405hp. I mean it's not like you wouldn't notice it's a Z06, kinda hard to miss. If it's a regular C5 then it's the standard 350hp LS1. If your car has basic mods and her's is stock, its going to be a driver's race.

well my car is cam heads and on a tire, shes on street tires and prolly cant even drive, the car is stock she says and i mean down to the air box it appears and sounds bone stock...she let me drive it and it felt peppy but it was in the rain so i couldnt really get on it, i mainly was just wanting to do my research so i could tell her that her car is a 346 and theres not a 35x motor out...the car is a c5, i looked at it a year ago or so tho and i can swear i saw 243 heads, which if that was the case would have to have come on it bc she didnt do anything to the car...can you order a c5 with a ls6 upgrade?

No, the LS6 is PART of the Z06 package. So to recap;

97-04 C5 that is a hatch back or convertible has an LS1 (no other engine option)

99-00 fixed roof (wagon wheels & no Z06 brake vents) has an LS1 (no other engine option)

01-04 fixed roof Z06 has a 385-405hp LS6, lighter glass, titanium exhaust, and a bunch of other upgrades over a regular C5.

If you saw a head casting that was 243 then it at least has ls6 heads on it

yea i know, thats why this is confusing, the lady baught it brand new, its a c5 not a z06, she doesnt no anything about cars and says she never touched it, thought i saw 243? so i dk

Id say check the heads, find out if they are 241's or 243's.

maybe gm had extra ls6 blocks or longblocks that they put in the car. or the lady's ls1 went out in the vette and gm under warranty put in a ls6 or just the ls6 block.

i know gm did that with 97 lt1's. some got 4 bolt main blocks from gm under warranty because they had bunch left over. they also took the left over lt4 engines and put them in some 97 ws6's and ss's. i know they did the same in 02 with the ls6. some f bodies got the ls6 blocks under warranty.

I don't think it was only under warranty work that they would change the blocks,

15% of 2001 and 25% of 2002 F-bodies got the LS6 blocks only from the factory

my 01 ss is 1 of them that got the LS6 block

Many LS1 engines came with LS6 blocks from the factory due to block availability. They only real functional difference is larger internal openings for better bay to bay breathing. A number of F-bodies also have LS6 blocks from the factory (2002 only, I think).
