Dyno & Bench Racing Forum - Shouldn't i be running lower than 12.55 in the 1/4 mile?

I went to the track for the first time on Saturday. I had to run on my 18" street tires because my drag radials didn't come in on time. I have a 2000 Trans Am with full exhaust/long tube headers, adjustable springs and shocks, 232/242 .610 lift comp cam, and a Yank ss3800 stall. My best time was 12.55 @ 111 mph for the 1/4 mile. How much quicker should I run with drag radials?

well if you cut a hole in your floor board under the gas pedal you can push the gas pedal down further that way you can go faster....

all jokes aside, we need to know what your 60' times were that way you can tell if your just not hooking

also what did you feel? did the car hook up or spin or churp a little then hook? by just telling us you 1/4 mile we are very limited with info to determine an opinion....

My 60 Ft times were 1.95, 2.05, and 2.07 from the 3 time slips I have. I was spinning a bit, but I wasn't launching it as hard because I had my street tires. This also was my first time at the drag strip so my reaction times weren't the best. The only one I can read on one of the time slips is .7359. What do you think?

Reaction times don't factor into your E.T. so don't worry about having a shitty one, just take your time and launch.

Those 1/4 mile times seem just right for a stalled cammed car with street tires. Get some decent tires under there to cut a 1.6 or better 60 ft. ;) Should be in the 11s nicely.

with tires you should atleast hit low 12s...like 12.1x or something

Thanks! Now I'm debating on Nitto or Mickey Thompson ET Streets. Which one do you think is best and whats the biggest size I can get? They will be going on 18" rims that are 9.5" wide. Discount tire ordered me some 305/45/18 Nittos and when I saw them I was like, holy shit these are huge. I didn't want monster truck tires, just something a little wider. So, know I have to order another pair but I'm not sure WHAT to order.

305/45 is WAYYY too tall for your application.

I had 305/35/R18 Nittos, and those ended up being the correct height, but they would not have held up to the torque I'm making with the current setup.

I think you are at the point where a set of Mickey Thompsons would be a great idea, but don't think you will be driving them around on the street too much. The Nitto and MT are completely different tires...

I think I will go for the Mickey Thompson ET Streets. I don't drive the TA too much anymore around town, especially since it is getting colder now. Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it!

if thats the case you should go for some MT ET Drags...still a street tire but even more for the strip than the streets
