I'd have to agree with that, what are the specs on that cam?

The numbers are not low but not the greatest either your exhaust setup is killing you.
Is SW Headers 1.3/4??

4.10 are taking some power too also LS7 Clutch is heavy.

CONGRATS.

Low numbers?!?!

You do realize this cam is TINY right?

Those are good numbers, ought to run well.

Venom, I completly agree with u on the exhaust killing the power. It is a temp soloution to get the car on the road. I'm going to a 3" with X-pipe and duals this spring and then going to retune with that. This motor is in a third gen TA and drive by wire so the exhaust was low on the list of things. Thanks for al the replys. I chose the cam for its excellent street manners and good torque curve. I love this setup. Trickflow did there homework on this heads/cam upgrade

Exhaust is killing you but other then that looks cool man. I'd really like to know the specs on that cam. Are you at liberty to post them?

Hey bro, if you want bigger numbers you are going to need a little more cam. Something in the mid to upper 230's with lifts that match those heads. How about 234/238 .623/.623 113+3 ?

I'm pretty content for now but maybe next year ill go bigger on the cam and see what happens. I'm thinking I could get around 490hp with a cam that size but lose some of the great street manners it has.I'm looking forward to seeing the trap speed. I'm looking to acheive 120mph or so as my goal

With the right tuner you won't have to sacrifice any street manners. My 402 is mild enough (until you nail the gas) to let your Grandmother drive it.

Ill install the new 3" exhaust and X pipe and see what it does. If it gets to 485hp or so then I will leave it as is. Im not excited about changing another cam at this point. This car is alot of fun to drive now! The TFS 225's were the best upgrade Ive done to this car hands down!

I wouldn't sweat dyno numbers on this combo. I have a friend that was running this combo on a Trailblazer SS 2wd. Last year in some nice cold weather at Atco, he ran some 11.70's with it on a 3600 stalled auto. If he ran that et with over 4500 lbs, then you should really pull some good times with your lighter weight. Dyno numbers aren't everything, he dynoed around 450 at the wheels. Just a thought

Awesome numbers, I bet that car idles and drives great! I don't think 120 mph will be a problem at all unless your track is at high elevation.

Nice, but I did the same hp you did on a 346ci w/afr 205 heads. However, you did kill me on tq. My ls1 made 463.9hp 414.5tq. My 3,600lbs t.a ran 11.1@123-124mph w/m6 trans. nice numbers and the car should haul ass. congrats.

Here is a more detailed version of my setup:

1990 TA LS1 conversion
6.0L Forged bottom end with 10.9 to 1 compression
TFS 225 CNC Heads
TFS stage 3 Cam 228/230 duration 585/585 lift
Fast 92mm unported intake
90mm 05 GTO Throttle body stock Drive By Wire
Speed density tune
Underdrive Crank Pulley
No AC
Stainless works 1 3/4 coversion headers Long Tube
2.5" Exhaust from headers to y-pipe. Ypipe is dual 2.5" inlet to 3" outlet. This is the part I need to fix( i know this is hurting power!)
T56 6 speed stock with LS7 Clutch
LS1 Stock 10 bolt rear with 4.10 gears and summit cover
Corvette Alcora aluminum rims 17 front and 18 rear with F1 tires
LS1 brake up grade front
Magnaflow Muffler (3"inlet to dual 2.5" exits)
All suspension upgrades (UMI)
97 LT1 Leather Interior (power)
Stock dash shift light set up to work with WOT shifts ( love this one! )

I think this about covers it. Pic of the car added.

I still say bump the compression by milling those heads or running a thinner gasket, or better yet do both. She'd make a lot more tq, and throttle response would be razor sharp. Not saying anything is wrong with the car, but 10.9 to 1 isn't much. You have a good bit on the table by getting to 11.5 or 11.6 to 1 SCR

You have a good bit on the table by getting to 11.5 or 11.6 to 1 SCRthe rule of thumb is what...4% power increase for every 1 point in compression? so theoretically he'd gain at best a 3% increase in power from removing his heads, paying to have them milled, paying for new gaskets and re-installing them. not a very good invest for the return at this point, in my opinion.

to the OP...sweet ride. i'm the in process of swapping an lm7 into an 89 firebird. i'm looking to do more with less. i'd love to see an 11.99 with a stock lm7, 5k stall, and some tricks.

Feels great to get this third gen going that quick. It had a 305 before the LS swap so its quite a big difference.

I hear ya on the cost of the missing hp. I was trying to say I would've had the heads milled before assembly and aimed for a higher compression so nothing was left on the table. Either way thats just me. I am glad the OP is happy with his build. Thats really all that matters.

+1 on throwing an ls motor in a 3rd gen in place of that tired 305

There was a guy with an IROC that had a Nascar like SBC that turns 9000 rpms. He had nitrous and was running with and beating a modded zr1 *2009 zr1 !!! Your car must surprise a lot of people man....

LOL I still have the 305 badges on it so it does get some people. Kind of unfair but gets some good laughs by vette owners when I drive past them. Everytime I race someone we have to pull over so they can see why a third gen beat them. that does not happen too often around here. Ive decided to keep the setup just like it is because it is very powerful and drives like a dream. Im telling you, this Trickflow setup is the way to go! I visited there shop and checked out all there tools and the engine dyno room. Very impressive to say the least. They do some great durability test on there heads also! I dont think you can beat the quality or power on these heads. Thanks guys.

I like how everyone is a cam expert nowadays.

And WTF is wrong with the above mentioned cam? Not too much duration for 6 liter, enough lift to take advantage of the flow the TFS 225's offer and won't over work a good set of Dual Valve springs. I've ran 4 cams so far and my suggestion was based off my 402 with TFS heads, just a few degrees less then mine so the smaller 364 has less duration to eat up.

Always some A$$hole throwing out nonsense. BTW Dick, wtf did your post add to this thread ?? I'll tell you, nothing.

i always here duals, duals, duals! I have 3" off road y-pipe with 3" magnaflow and a dump. makes same powers as duals with less weight ;) sounds good to. I have seen to many people go from a setup like mine to duals with x-pipe and they would loose hp or make the same but always made less torq. So add some weight and make less power ;) Oh yeah dont forget the ground clearance thing. ;)

I love when people talk about hp #'s. They don't mean shit! My stock bottom end 346ci LS1 only made 447rwhp and 403rwtorque through a 4400stalled auto and a 4.11 rear gear. strange 12bolt rearend. The car weighs 3600lbs with me in it and it ran 10.99 at 122-123mph. BTW good #'s op

a friend of mine just went from your setup (dumped Y, which doesnt sound so great to me) to a custom X and picked up 8rwhp and like 3tq, nto to mention most people think it sounds better now. everyone is different though, and so is each car's setup, so i woudlnt say there is "too many" people going wrong with an X setup. you definitely have it on weight there, although is not even 20lbs a big deal on a full weight car? might be more like 10 even.

So how did it do at the track. The 464HP is good hp but the 450 torq is impressive! Most cars with that HP only make around 400 tq.
