About three months ago my block was sent to ERL for a Superdeck 1 with the 6 bolt option and Billet Mains, I already had the ARP studs so those were not needed. All ERL had to do was install the sleeves (rough bored), install the billet mains, and install the truss system for the 6 bolt heads. I have my engine builder who was going to then do the final hone and assembly on my motor. I was told by Seth that this would be a 3 week turnaround.
Three weeks go by and I get another call from Seth telling me they had no cores to use and they were gonna have to use my block; not a problem, I still plenty of time to get ready for the shootout. Well a few more weeks go by and I get a call again saying "the block is done and ready to be sent out, lets close out your bill so we can get this thing shipped" ($3300). I give my engine builder a call and let him know to be expecting my motor Monday (it was a Thursday).
THIS IS WHERE SEAN COMES INTO PLAY, FROM HERE ON OUT WE DEALT WITH SEAN
A few days go by, I call my builder, NO BLOCK. He informs me that ERL called him, not me, and was charging me an additional $1200.00 to clearance my block. WTF?? My block was already clearanced and did not require clearancing. I told them specifically that If any machining needed to be done my engine builder would be doing it. How are you going to do work that you were not told to do, not consult me prior, then try to charge me for it? On top of that, $1200.00 to clearance a block??? Its like a hundred dollar job.
After days and days of talking this out ERL decides to charge me 100.00 instead of 1200.00 and send the block (This really upset them and they tried to hold this against us down the road).
Block finally shows up and it is Fucked, I'm talking Jason, Freddy, and the dude from Texas Chainsaw Massacre decided to fight each other in and around my cylinders. The Pistons were hanging out of the bottom of the motor and the job was not anything I would have expected from ERL.
Now I know shops make mistakes and its how the shop handles said mistake that sets them apart. ERL is called and made aware of the situation. Sean immediately places blame on my engine builder who has done nothing but cleaned up the sleeves and started assembling rotating assembly to check for clearance. Days and days go by with no resolve, Sean is dodging our phone calls and no one else will talk to us. It finally got to the point I was calling from my work phone acting like I was someone trying to buy a motor. Finally we get him on the phone (conference calls)
Sean "are you going to get online and bad mouth us"?
Me No, I don't have time for that.
Sean well this is not our responsibility, as a business we can't eat this expense.
Me As a fucking business?? As a customer I cant eat this. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
Finally he offers to send some sleeves which he claims are 2800.00 bucks (my ass Sean) and tells me to get someone to sleeve it. That's all they're going to do for me. No refund of money, nothing. Fuck that, I paid you for it, I'm not paying someone else for it. Sean then says if you send it back here we won't touch it. DONT SEND IT HERE, WE'RE DONE WITH YOU!
Sean will not let me talk to his supervisors, neither will the receptionist, I tried, you either get Sean or Seth.
Finally I'd had enough trying to let them do the "right" thing and threatend legal action. I then get a call back from Steve (guess the shop foreman??) saying they will refund my money.
It has now been 2.5 months going on 3. Pure fucking hell. After a couple more days and calls, I finally get my money and can honestly say I'd never expect this from ERL. With customer service like it is pure luck you are still in business. You should really go and thank the Ohio boys for that b/c they are the ones keeping you in business.
