Sorry for the long read. I wanted to tell it as accurately as possible...

Let me start off by saying i've been dying to get a good run in on the street with a 03/04 Cobra. I've ran several at the track over the years but most of those cars didn't launch worth crap so I haven't had too many good run in's with them.....So yesterday I figure it's been a while since i've taken the SS out and with the weather being perfect and all I thought i'd take it for a nice around town cruise. :drive: I'm rollin' down the way and behind me comes a Blue '03 or '04 Cobra. He pulls so close up on my ass I swore he was going to hit me. I tap my breaks a bit like 'WTF man' and he backs away. He then jumps in the other lane, drops it into gear and zooms up on the side of me. He looks at me with a grin and then gets on it -only to let off and drop back beside me. Me being the cocky egotistical bastard that I am I look over at him and repeat "follow me, follow me" while pointing ahead to an open two lane straight away just incase he didn't understand. Just to be sure I jumped in front of him in hopes he would follow. As I began to make the right turn onto Freeport Blvd I see his turn signal flash so I know it's on. I get the usual butterflies in my chest I get before every race and get ready. I ease in first gear, just kind of inching along as he gets over in the left lane and pulls beside me. I throw up 3 fingers with my left hand while motioning towards my horn with my right. On the third honk we both gun it. I instantly - I mean instantly pull on him, and by third gear I probably had about 3.5 cars on him. I shut down around 110-115 and had about a 4 car length lead. I cruise to the light and jump in the turning lane to proceed back on my route. He pulls up right behind me. As I make the U'e he follows so I know it's on again. I hop in the right lane to allow him to pull up beside going about 30mph. On the third honk we go again with similar results, but this time for some reason I pull on him even harder. I shut down around 115 and had about 4.5 cars. Honest to goodness that car was no match, not even close. I slowed down as he rolls pass me and I get behind him. We roll through the green and I pull up next to him and yell 'pull over'.

We pull into the Valero and begin to conversate. The first thing this guy says is 'What heads & cam package are you running'? I reply 'the stock one'. lol I tell him it's a Full Bolt-on car with a small shot, stock heads/cam and bottom-end, no porting, no polishing, no nada! He then says 'swear to freakin God' and I proceed to pop my hood. He tells me he doesn't see how my car with just full bolt-ons and a 75-shot could pull him like that. I then explain to him how my car is setup, and how my car is significantly lighter than your average F-body and how weight plays a huge roll. His mods were M&H Drag Radials (don't know what size, they were on the stock wheels), 3.73 gears, 2.8 pulley, Accufab TB, high-flow inlet elbow, fender-mount Cold air system, full exhaust, tune by Sac Mustang, mostly stock suspension with the exception of some type of shocks and was full weight. He said he put down a SAE corrected 441/453. My mods are LS6 intake, self-ported 75mm throttle body, custom 'Home Depot' Bellows, self-ported/descreened MAF, SLP Lid, cut lower box, TB Bypass, 160* stat, U/D Pulley, Meizure electric W/P, Yella Terra 1.8 roller rockers, Stainless Works LT headers w/ Flowmaster 3.5" collectors, custom 3.5" Y with 3.5" Borla XR-1 Bullet and single 3.5" Tailpipe, TNT 75-wheel shot Wet Kit, FFP Tune, stock T56, 4.10's, Built 10-bolt (LOL!), BMR/Hotchkis/TPI Parts suspension, Lots of !Weight, and M/T 345/35-18" ET Streets. My car made 359/368 motor and 433/471 on bottle. It tipped the scales at 3070lbs dry and 3271lbs with me in it. Mind you that weight was on M/T skinnies in the front which of course are lighter than my 18" wheel/tire street combo.

He says he is going to be having the blower ported soon, so we exchanged numbers and I told him to give me a call when that's done and we can go for another run. I figure with that mod he should be able to give me a good run. All in all I had a fun run with a cool guy in a nice 'stang!

Thanks! And good eye for catching that. lol

I've removed weight from all over the place on this car. Lexan fiberglass scratch resistant windows, lightweight suspension components, tubular K-member, rear seat, etc. etc. I do infact drive this car on the street and highway pretty often year round. Still has A/C though not factory system.

Yeah he was a cool dude. I use to own a Teal '93 Cobra myself. They were always the only Mustang I ever really cared for.

Here is my best nitrous e.t. & trap speed slips. I'll try and dig up my best Bolt-on only slip and scan/post that as well.

You have to consider the car still has the factory body panels all the way around and still has A/C. It technically doesn't even have a "fully built" suspension/chassis setup. With all that stuff said and done I could surely be under 2k...but then it becomes a pure race car at that point. Even if I was a small 145lbs as opposed to 200+lbs this car woud be very close to 29xx lbs dry the way it sits now. That's not too bad IMO.

good kill and cool guy. Details on Aftermarket a/c?

It's an aftermarket kit from NAP. I removed and sold the original A/C system in effort for weight savings, then later realized it gets pretty hot with leather seats and 100* temps. So a buddy of mine had this kit lying around and custom fabbed it to work on my car. It was originally designed for a GM classic car. Not sure if it's actually lighter than a factory system though.

Nice! My brother in law has an '03 Cobra. He now has the title of having the fastest car of all my friends. I need to de-thrown him, lol. Seriously though, one of the best upgrades I am looking into is weight savings. It makes you faster, better gas, you can't go wrong. I am interested to hear what all you did to save weight. Please let me know.

Great kill, dude! Looks like you have a badass setup there. Are you pretty much happy with it as it sits or are you going to go into the motor or a bigger shot any time soon?

Nice kill. I love to hear the stang go down story. :D I raced a modded 03 cobra and the guy near killed us. He lost control went sideways, hit the curb then spun out. I'm happy i was in front because the fool may of hit me. He had all this power and couldn't drive. still,he was messing with a 10sec n/a car who had 200 shot of nos for a back up if needed.

Crazy how light your car is. When I went to the track I pulled out my spare tire and jack, back seats, passenger seat, and some plastic. After weighing it all on a bath scale everything totaled a little over 100lbs. I can't imagine how you could find another 200lbs even with lexan, k-member ect.
