General LSX Automobile Discussion - $60k Budget... What to get?

1st post here. I have a '07 GT500 and a '02 nitrous injected mustang and i'm looking at getting a new toy. I know nothing about Chevys but i'm interested in either a new Camaro or Vette. With a 60k budget or so what would be the best model to get? Pro's/Con's of everything would be awesome. Thanks!

98-02 F-Body!!! If I could do it again, I would of gotten a WS6. But I'm just as happy with my SS

I would get a new c6 zo6 505hp 3100bls and a 10 second car in the right hands that can handle very well to. If you ask me its the best all around car (except for a new zr1) and with a head/cam combo with all the supporting mods can be made into one hell of a fast street car! With that budget you could get a used one with under 10k miles for $50,000 and have $10,000 for mods. Just my .02

What are you talking about? 2010 camaros have either a ls3 with a 6 speed or a l99 with the auto the l99 is a ls3 with vvt and the auto is not an allison transmission. Oh and a ls9 is not a 427 its a beefed up ls3 with a roots blower and it cost $20k.

Hmm, yea, ....., let me think. The car gained over 100Hp from the previous generation, yet makes the same quarter mile time. On top of being a HUGE PIG, its also ugly as hell. They do nothing for me and i'm a die hard GM fan. For 60K this would be my list

you want show and shine with a drag setup. your gonna want 2 different wheels atleast one to race on and one to drive on. but with 60k you could make an amazing. F-body. really comes down to your preference. you want auto? powerglide? 6spd? Fuel injection? carbed? turbo? nitrous? supercharged? all motor? its really hard to tell you what to build.
so many things come into play what you want. also a goal. set a goal for yourself. a 9 sec or put down 1000hp or something like that. and then start there you can quickly spend that 60k and not touch what you want. but it all depends on what you want

Thats a pretty open question but I would say no way on the '10 Camaro. If you want brand new paid for get the new grand sport vette. If you want almost paid for get the z06, and if you are good with used get a nice 996 GT2 RS, or any of the many other all wheel drive turbo race ready Porsche models!

You should buy a super clean 98-02 F-body, which you should be able to find for 15-20k and put a huge NA motor in it that makes like 800HP.

buy my GTO and I have a 455 that comes with it you can easily make 1000HP with a turbo and make it look bonestock with the hood closed and have plenty of money left over

yea like previously stated. i nice 69 camaro with a 572 a twin turbo setup. with some real real fat 335 in the back with a deep dish wheel slammed on the ground. turning 9s in the quarter but still very respectable on the street. might run a little more then 60k to make it look perfect. but with 60k can build yourself one hell of a car.

do you mean 60K worth on mods, or is that 60K including buying the car? i have no idea who the hell would blow 60k on modifying a car. if anything i would buy a used 98-02 fbody and do a sick H/C 408 with a nice procharger and call it a day.

Wtf is your problem? It is his money but he wanted me to research a few different options. Camaro is only what he's leaning towards. The engine in my GT costs more than 5k btw asshole.

For your side the new Camaro is unoriginal now and the only people driving them (or at least where I live) are older guys trying to one up the Jones' and know nothing about cars anyway. And like it was said they will be just another car on the road soon.

Unless you plan to heavily modify the new SS, leave it alone. Even early Camaros are common among car shows and drag strips, but at least you can make it your own.

Personnally I would still go with a Porsche, but since you want show and drag, 60s and 70s Corvettes are also among my favorites, 68-72 being the best, and if you build it to be a show car and it still runs down the track, it is that much cooler! And with that sort of budget it could be well built with modern brakes and suspension, and of course a monster engine.

ive always wanted to do a "pro-touring" style first gen camaro. completely new interior, sub-frame, some big $ wheels, great paint job and a big cube LS7. modern power with the great classic looks. you could even daily it...

that would be sweet to have a pro-touring car. Like that tribute trans-am off of Muscle Car. Wasn't a big fan of it til they dropped in an LS7 that was pushin over 600hp.

really ??? i drove one at a dealership and it could barely turn the wheels in first gear with the traction control off. i was told it was a Ford Mustang Shelby Gt500. i couldve been told wrong but it had the little plaque signed by shelby and all.

If you're gonna go nuts with mods (forged bottom end/stroker/boost or nitrous), get a base LS2/LS3 C6 and use the rest of the cash for the parts.

If you're not gonna go past H/C, C6 Z06.

you've got a gt500 and a nitrous huffing 02 mustang and a need for a new toy? it would seem to me, its most economical to put the nitrous system on the gt500 and sell the 02 mustang to some kid. that should get you where you want. then you can beat on the gt500 all you want, knowing that you have $60k to build it up or get something else if something breaks.

if the nitrous huffing gt500 doesn't provide enough thrills for you and you really gotta blow through that $60k, your only hope is to buy a clean 3rd gen camaro, fill the trunk with cocaine and head off to las vegas.

I am paying attention to that thread... Parts are still expensive as shit for the new camaros.. In a couple years you will be able to hit 10s pretty reliably for under 10k..

look up factory five racings gtm. badass kit car that looks like a ford gt but is lsx powered. def worth 60 grand. and yea the 2010 is bad right now. but its bran new. give it a year or 2 and see what its like then. and yea the hennessey camaro built identical to the zr1 is a beast and looks amazing

A 2010 with 25k in mods.

You can pick up a used '08 LS3 Corvette for less than a new Camaro in some cases. This is a MUCH better base to start with, considering it's the same engine with about 600lbs less fat to haul around. Stock for stock the LS3 C6 will slam the LS3 Camaro.

Use the other $20-25k for mods. You will have a sick C6 at that point, and something much faster than a GT500 or sprayed Mustang GT.

If you want something to build with your dad that's LSX powered, build a Factory Five GTM and run mid 11s with 400 hp. That's what I would do.
