Dyno & Bench Racing Forum - cam only conversion vs 04 gt on spray

Hey, just got the car put together. It's a 87 monte carlo ls with a 2000 ls1 with a cam. So far I've ran the car 4 times managing two 8.1s in the 8th on the stock z28 tune. Theres a 04 gt on a 125 shot thats been running 8.3s on the street tires and has now called me out and hes going to throw on some et streets. If I were to get any kind of tune put on the car, as right now it wont idle on its own, I should still have no problem beating this car right?

List of mods: cam(round 600 lift and mid 230s duration) cold air intake, 3600 ss converter, 4.10 gear.

well if he was spinning his way to an 8.3 he easily could be in the 7's with just the tires. He also could have put a bigger jet in the kit and he has another 50 or 75 or whatever horsepower.
So you never know till you run him, but i would wait till you can get some sort of tune on your car.

Get your car tuned. I would say if your car hooks you should be able to get him.

I may try it, he only ran 8.8 on the motor. I think I'll drop the tire pressure this time and try leavn harder...1.9 60ft with a 275 60 15 MT DR with what is probably a 3200 lbs car

If he was only 2 tenths off your time on street tires and he's going to run a good tire, then what makes you think you'd have no problem beating him? I'm not saying you can't, I'm just wondering if you have any tricks up your sleeve.

Also, what did the two cars trap?

He trapped a couple mpg faster...cars getting tuned sat so no more shiftn early and I'm pretty sure I can cut a better 60 ft. I cut a 1.9 leavn bout 2K with a 3600 yank and about didnt drop the tire pressure at all so it should have been aroun 32-35 psi...we will see this weekend for sure though

I would but some douche pulled out in front of me yesterday and i totaled the car and bout scallped myself from what the doctor said:eek2: ...haven't seen the inside of the car but I have the outside and the fronts screwed bad...jashell1562 went to look at it and snag my wheels off and said motos shifted back like 3 inches and everyone says I bent the steering wheel all the way around. Had my seatbelt on though so not sure how that happened. 10K and a year later all I get is to start all over. :(

Damn, that sucks, dude! You get hurt at all? Hopefully you can save the motor and trans, etc so you can reuse them.

yeah i got a big gash in my forehead...apparently the seatbelt didn't catch cause I had it one...I hope I can save some stuff off the car cause it cost me a bunch. I'm pretty pissed. A buddy told me the bumper is bout touching the ground and my front drivers side frame rail is bout 2 inches off the ground...maybe I'll have pics later

Not your fault, right? You could go after the person as long as they have decent insurance. The money you get for the car won't cover the mods, but since you're injured you could get more to cover it I bet.

kinda screwed myself on that though...i swerved into on coming traffic and hit a car headon so im at fault now...the truck that pulled out in front of me no one knows where it went...chaulk it up to experience and choose the ditch or the truck rearend next time and collect what will probably b less the 1K for the car. Who pays anything for a 87 monte carlo ls?...not got any pictures myself but have seen some of the car...front ends gone roof is bubbled front denfer is currently bout 6 inches long doors back bout 4 inches rear fender is buckled in some places

Yeah, that sucks. I lost a bunch one time when I totalled my 1994 TA. I got the money for the car, but they wouldn't give me anything for the parts in it even though I had everything documented with reciepts.

yeah like i said, i dont really expect to get much out of the car. Checked on a few cars and i think I can take the money and go pick up another monte with a blown motor or something like that. Insurance companies just dont appreciate time and money put into a car and just use something like KBB to come up with a price for the norm...went to look at the car today for the first time. heres some cell phone pics the girlfriend took...
