Paint & Body Work - anyone done a "WRAP" ????

i have pondering about paint and stuff for my car...well i was instantly foored at my first 3 quotes and the cheapest being 3200$$$$!!!!!aaaaahhhhh WTF
did paint and body go through the roof or what....i know you get what you pay for but i dont have that laying around for paint....well i got to thinking and remembered that episode on speed where they were talking about the vinyl wraps on cars....i know business use them all the time but never see them as solid colors...
was wondering if anyone had any
experience?
pics?
prices?
or anything else that may help

While I have seen a ton of wraps on cars , the our shop truck is completely vinyl wrapped for advertising .....you would not get a shine like paint . It would look like a satin finish and ultimately with no graphic , jus as a solid color ...would just not look very good . I would just be patient and keep adding to the money you already have saved , when u have enuff , pop for a good paint job .

I've heard people claim the wraps can be 2-3k also so if it that is true you wouldn't be saving anything.

DAMN they are that expensive too???....i kinda understand about not having the same finish/gloss as paint.....but i thought it might be a cheaper alternative than all the prep work and bs that the body shop would do....i guess the jambs wouldnt even be the same color either...lol this sucks.....moral of the story...dont buy a roller with shitty paint!!!!

there are flat or satin black vinyl wraps do a google search ive seen em there before. Look pretty good and if I remember they were under a grand. Dont last as long as paint obviously though.

+1 the worst thing u can do is have a great job everywhere else then go half ass on something else.

from what i've heard from some painters on this site and elsewhere, some shops won't touch work that isn't their own. they either do all or none. so if the car has been partially prepped, they may say no to the job.

i'd go a step furthur and say to just do the entire job yourself. great learning experience, unbeatable price, and from what ive seen, you can get some great results. if i do another paint job i will most likely do it myself.

wrapping is a bad idea, it wont look anything like a good paintjob and ya it is actually a bit more expensive than paint, and it takes about the same time, reason is they have actually wetsand ur whole car to a dull finish so the vily doesnt peel, its ugly anyway, but ya, nowadays labor at body shops is wicked expensive i just did the rear quarter/hatch/wing on my car and it cost $2900....look!

that there cost $2900, well...i didnt pay for it, my insurance did but thats what i pay them for, ive never made a claim before besides this!

I've never seen them wetsand the car to a dull finish, that defeats the purpose of a wrap.

I couldn't find the link but I remember a German Company that did full color wraps that you care for like you would your paint. They had a bunch of exotics that they did including a chrome Ferrari. You can then pull off the vinyl and have fresh, protected paint underneath (the paint doesn't get wetsanded).

Flying them here alone would probably break the bank for most of us...
