I know its way to early to say what will happen in 2010 but.....

http://www.competitionplus.com/index.php/drag-racing/news/12412-memphis-motorsports-park-makes-significant-changes

In a prepared statement, Dover Motorsports, Inc. (NYSE-Symbol: DVD) announced that it was ceasing all operations at Memphis Motorsports Park and that it would not be promoting any events in Memphis in 2010. The oval track events have been transferred to Gateway International Raceway, another Dover-owned property.

Once again, I vote for Gateway, still central, good track and lots of parking

At this point, Gateway is very high on our list especially since it is owned by Dover Ent. We'll need some time to figure out how all of this fits into our schedule. One thing for sure, nothing will happen quickly.

Well thats a mother fucker.I was wanting to race next year but if it moves away from memphis im liable to not come at all.I really really despise driving long distances

Guys and gals,

Don't get too worked up yet. Because MMP is closed today doesn't mean it'll be closed next year, or even next month for that matter. Dover was trying to sell it before they closed it and I'm sure they're still trying to sell it...Besides, if we do have to move the NMCA/LSX event it'll more than likely be somewhere near Memphis.

I was about to post this, There's not exactly a 1/4 mile track close to memphis. I guess STL would be a good alternative.

But Aaron no organization can wait around a year to find out if they will contract there or not so I would think they have a bit of urgency on their hands with scheduling next year.

Gateway is just about the same distance for me so 6 of one, half dozen of another but... Gateway is 10 times the facility Memphis is. If I were guessing there will be a decision ironed out by PRI on the 2010 LSX shootout location.

Bring it here. NMCA has been here before. The track is Thunder Road Raceway Park (formerly Red River Raceway) The track is better that Memphis in every way. Paved pits are more than twice the size of Memphis. It is right in the middle of the country

I hate to see Memphis close but if the LSX race has to move I'd like to see it go to St Louis or Bowling Green

Didn't say we were going to wait a year, just that nothing is set in stone yet. This caught everyone off guard, but we are already on it. Should have something firm before PRI.

St. Louis sounds good to me. LOL.

I would probably attend as long as it's within 500 miles of St. Louis though, regardless.

My guess is that MMP will be bought and reopened. But if that doesnt happen, St Louis or Bowling Green either one sound good to me.

Beech bend in Bowlinggreen gets my vote.. It's a very nice track with covered grandstands and tons of room for show cars as well...NMRA is there every year it's time for LS cars to come and take over the town once a year as well...Hell the home of the corvette is in this town let's get it!!!

This is a high profile track with a NHRA national event every year. I am sure someone will pick it up.

We have an NMCA race around the first weekend of May every year at Bowling Green by far my most favorite race track to go too.

I can't believe MMP is shut down. That's upsetting news for sure. It is a really nice facility and I'm sure someone will open it back up, but in this sluggish economy that may take a while. Good luck Scott, Aaron, and Jeff on securing a new venue for the finals/lsx shootout. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that though.

You could always open the season at No Problem Raceway and move the finals to Bowling Green. :)

MMP will be back open. Dover did a crap job trying to sell it and no one in Memphis knew they were even selling it. My guess it will have new ownership before the end of the year. I'd be willing to bet this is Dover's attempt to get more money from the deal because they would soon have people standing in line to buy it.

Ironically enough, they were trying to schedule the LTx Shootout at Memphis next year. They had a tentative date set.

What about Concord, NC? 4 lanes to run....That's what I'd love to see as well, those 4 lanes could go A LONG WAY at keeping the very busy program running smoothly. Could mean finishing up the event on a Sunday morning instead of Monday like this year's event.
Though it's not quite as centrally located as Gateway is of course.

I hate to see Memphis closing, but only time will tell what happens with the place. There's still plenty of time for the property to be sold, and events organized for 2010.

Although I like Memphis, I wouldn't be totally opposed to going somewhere different if the track doesn't reopen. I really like Bowling Green. Obviously, its a much shorter trip for me, but the town is much better suited for an event like this. The hotels are close together, and close to the track. It provides for a much better "scene" than Memphis, just because everyone is concentrated in one area, and not spread out everywhere. Only thing, Id like to see the LSX Shootout continue to be held in October, not in the middle of the summer.

Bowling Green gets my vote, I'm only 5 min from the track...lol but I wouldn't care if it went to Gateway. I'll be there one way or the other...

i would like to see the shootout at the NMCAs date in bowling green.

i mean its practically begging to be held there at this point. its the home of the Corvette (LSx powered obviously), you already have an event there, its earlier in the year so it isnt 20 degrees for us, its in a VERY nice and beautiful part of the country, its very easy to get to and there are a few nice interstates for after hours activities if anyone so desires..

dont worry about the track being closed....it will only last for the winter......as long as everything goes as planned....the new ownwers will make the track 10 times better than it ever has been

Gateway or Heartland Park in Topeka. Both are great tracks and can give everyone paved pits. They are also larger facilities so that the event can keep growing. Hearland is more in the center of the usa and might help getting more cars from out west. Just me 2 cents!

I like the track at Topeka but it is so sprawled out it is not very spectator friendly track. One bonus is the road course that could also be used but... the expense would be to great I am sure. Another drawback about Topeka in my opinion is the lack of other things to do while you are there, it's in the middle on nowhere. STL on the other hand is loaded with things to do outside the track.

Gateway is less than 15 min from downtown St.Louis. Tons of stuff to do. Huge area for paved pits and parking. Holds many major events and could still be scheduled in October. The "Gentleman's" clubs aren't far from the track at all. Good bars and clubs and a lot nicer hotels that would love to play "host" for all of us I'm sure.

Well at least if you move it away from Memphis less chance of your stuff getting jacked. Memphis is well known for car theft and thugs.
