Southern Members - Need help !! North Alabama

I traded for a 02 Ws6 with 25k miles a few weeks back. After driving it about 15 miles I started to hear a knocking sound from the engine. Its a pretty loud sound but it kinda sounds as if it coming from the pass side head. I have no idea what would make that kinda noise in the head. Also the guy I traded with said it had AFR heads, been cammed, ZO6 intake and throttle body, full SLP exhaust, and a NOS that he claims had never been used. Any ideas would be great or if someone was in my area of Gadsden, AL and wouldn't mind looking at it that would help me a ton. Take the trans am plate off the front left passenger side head to see if they are AFR...They mark their heads on the front. The Z06 intake is just an Ls6 intake, and Im pretty sure the Corvette uses a different kind of tb so it might just be a ported stock throttle body. As for the knock it could be a lot of things. It does sound as if its coming from the passenger side head ?

the valve isint hitting the piston, its hard to tell could be rod knock, bent pushrod, bad lifter does it go away or get quieter when it warms up hows ur oil pressure id pull the valve covers and inspect could just be a bad pushrod or a rocker arm could have puked its bearings go take a look

Oil pressure is about 45-50 cold then about 25-30 warm, doesn't go away as it gets warm. I was just riding down the highway when it started to make this sound.

thats find oil press then its either a bent pushrod or one of the rocker arms spit the bearings see which side its on and pull the valve cover and and the 8 rockers and pushrods and inspect them ill bet youll find something out of the ordinary

Its on the passenger side for sure.

if it is a 02 it came with a ls6/z06 intake also if there z06 heads you should see a 243 casting number also NOS installed but never used I hope you knew damn well that guy was lying seem like he sold you a lemon

You are probaly right. It's a real damn shame you can't take a mans word anymore. Guess it's my fault as well I should have done a little more research first, O well this is where I'm at now. Thanks for the comment !

Yeah I started the car 3-4 times and drove it, no problems till about 12-15 miles down the road after we traded.

At the OP expense, this is a learning lesson to those in the market for a car. Do NOT buy a car that has a nitrous kit on it. Most of the time, guys selling nitrous cars are selling them because they beat the ever living piss out of it and now it's starting to have problems.

yeah i wouldnt buy a car that had been sprayed unless i knew it well or drove it for at least 30 or so miles till i knoew the engine was warm and not knocking... its easy for someone to spray the guts out of ANY car

Pulled the vavle cover, no issues with rockers or pushrods. The sounds really seems to be under the intake now. You can feel it on the intake bolts, cant feel anything on the valve covers or heads. My luck its a rod or something in the bottom end.

I had a 350 that supn 2 rod barrings and bent two push rods it made the same noise as yours. and it still had 50psi cold and 30 psi warm of oil presser. have you checked your oil for specks of mettle.

Go ahead and drain the oil out. Cut your filter open and have a look to see if there are any pieces of metal in there. It sounds to me like a possible bearing failure. It has slightly low oil pressure, should be around 40 @ idle.

Did you pull all the pushrods? You need to pull them out, and roll them across a glass table or something flat. Shake all your rockers and listen for anything that sounds out of the ordinary, I've heard of the needle bearings coming out of the stock rockers. Definitely drain the oil and have a look though before running it anymore.

The car was running right when we traded, when I started to head home about 12-15 miles the noise started. My for sale ad was copied and pasted from a CL ad that my buddy listed for me. I didn't even notice that, Thanks ! I will get that changed, as I have nothing to hide. Sorry for the different stories!

Yeah never buy a car that has nitrous on it. I bet he sprayed the shit out of it. Why install nitrous and then tell someone you never used it. It's like putting nittos on the car and saying you never did a burn out. HAH!
