Gears & Axles - Do i ABSOLUTLY have to drill a ABS hole?

Bought a 4channel rearend with 4.10's. I have a 3 channel. I have everything to bolt up. I have the 3 channel axels and everything. The only thing i have left is to drill a hole for the ABS sensor. If i dont drill the hole, what are the consequences of not having the ABS sensor on the 4 channel rearend other than the obvious, no ABS?

Pretty much, No ABS. That bout it.

I'm in the same boat. I have the 4 channel rear in a 3 channel car. No ABS, but even worse is the ABS light and the red brake light on. I hate having a light on in the dash.

Did you get the reluctor ring installed on the 4 channel carrier too?
I don't see how the ABS would work without the reluctor ring on the axle.

Dumb question, could you just hook up one wheel sensor on the 4 channel rear? Or would that just cause more problems?

A 3 Channel set up has a exciter the size of the ring and pinion, the 4 channel is smaller. Most likely it will detect a speed diff and go haywire. I would suspect.

This is exactly right. The "pulse per mile" is different. It will try to work and then set a performance code. Before the code sets, it thinks the rear is locking up and it makes the ABS activate. If there was a way to drill the housing without taking it out I would do it. If I'm going to take the housing out, I'll put the correct one in it, if I can find one! (hint)
