Dyno & Bench Racing Forum - 02 z28 vs mach 1?

My friend is trying to set me up to race a mach1 a friend of his has. As far as i know all he has is a CAI and its a manual. The kid is still in school and mommy and daddy bought it for him. And highly doubt he's a good driver. Just wanted to get some opinions on what the outcome should be.

Assuming you can drive, you should walk pretty decently. Just be cautious... Those cars can be deadly to bolt on ls1 cars if they have Some radical gears and good bolt ons paired with a good driver. But if he truly has just an CAI, u should have the win np

I've personally taken down a bolt on LS1 from a roll in a Mach 1 with nothing but a shifter, midpipe, and catback at the time. From a dig it would have been much uglier IMO.

I've personally taken down a bolt on LS1 beat-up 157k-mile automatic driven by my grandma from a roll in a Mach 1 with nothing but a shifter, midpipe, and catback at the time. From a dig it would have been much uglier IMO.

I was dead even with a 04 Mach1 which had mufflers and 4.10's. I had a 3200 stall, cai, and a cutout. Dead even everytime.

That's me racing a new guy on our local forum last week. He has catback exhaust and a cold air intake. In the far lane is a terminator making 445rwhp....pause the vid at 16 seconds.... :)

Had I gotten a few more runs to get to know the car better I would have done quite a bit better I'm sure. I'm not the best driver in the world but I have figured out which pedal does what.

Yes I have been in a F-body lately. Was a black WS6 T/A. Thing rattled more than a baby's rattle. The gauges could barely be seen (that red color). I still liked the car because I knew it looked badass going down the road but to me a Mustang is just alot more comfortable. Now if we could just figure out how to make a Mustang fast we would have the best of both worlds. :P

one or two tenth and 2-4 mph is alot. you know what a drivers race really is? a mach vs a mach or an ls1 vs an ls1. THAT is a drivers race--- two identical cars.

A tenth is about a car length. That is light years if your racing for money.

A tenth is a large margin regardless of what class you race in. You'd be surprised how many 13 second cars bracket race and they are racing for money. When was the last time you went to the track? Not everyone that races every weekend drives a single digit car. A tenth is not close in my opinion but if you think it is then you are entitled to your opinion.

Well to the OP, I'd guess you would win for sure with long tubes and if it was tuned. But honestly the ls1 and mach 1 is a great race stock for stock and mild mods to mild mods.

Well to the OP, I'd guess you would win for sure with long tubes and if it was tuned. But honestly the ls1 and mach 1 is a great race stock for stock and mild mods to mild mods.

there's probably about 8 other vids on you tube between a mach and an ls1 with the mach clearly losing

the videos you posted are both a4 ls1 vs an m5 mach, and yes that is a close race. m6 ls1>m5 mach = a4 ls1> a4 mach

Please post some examples then, I cant find any.

And in the first vid, the a4 has 3.73 gears, which means its at least as fast as a stock m6 if not faster.

Try this one, pay particular attention to the two times the Mach 1 spanks the C5 'vette. I do believe they come with LS1's, and are somewhat lighter than a Mustang. And the few bolt on mods on the Mach 1 are only good for about 15-18rwhp, so it's still at a disadvantage to the mightly LS1.

Thanks guys. Putting the exhaust on tomorrow. Replacing the chokemasters with some Dynomax welded mufflers. Trying to get every drop of power out of the combination. I've got good parts, just a tiny camshaft now.

I never raced his new setup. Lets just say we both have reason to feel confident in the out come of the race now (Old set up running that is). I just have a extra 100 reasons over his.LOL
