View Full Version : Tune results after first mods

So I had my exhaust system put on, and had my first official tune (since I owned the car)

My results are in my signature. Are these numbers roughly what you would expect from the mods I have, which aren't many?

Max torque was achieved at 4500 rpm, max rwhp was achieved at 5500 rpm.

Air/Fuel mix is a steady 13 all the way through the rpm range.

**EDIT**
Results after first mods:
HP: 338 rwhp
Max Torque: 350

sounds about right. get yourself an ls6 or fast intake and let your engine breath better. that will give you a nice boost in power.

seafoam you engine, get new plugs and wires, and clean/get a new air filter. that can yield some more hp as well

^ +1 what he said on the LS6 Intake. I don't think he needs a fast til he gets a cam and better flowing heads IMO.

that sounds about right. My car put down 344/360 with mods in sig.

Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure I have a good base to work on and nothign was out of whack.

I did get new NKG plugs as part of the tune.

I'll be doing the LS6 intake and a bigger throttle body to go with it as my next mod in a few months.

Yea the cut out gains too, what was the diff between the 2, opened and closed?

ShadowCat

About 4 hp between open and closed. I have my electric QTP cutout where the plates go in the adjustable Borla system. Maybe get more HP if it was farther forward perhaps, but there is not much clearance for the electric motor/cut out pipe...

Now decibels on the other hand between open and closed.... :)

I think having the cut out open will make me save gas because you tend to shift at lower RPM's if you are in traffic and want to keep the noise down from any under cover cops... Not sure if I would get pulled over, Harley motorcycles are louder in normal driving situations... Open cut out is definately loud (in a very sexy way) when accelerating hard...

Those are good numbers esp. without an ls6 manifold. My car with ls6 and mods in sig but on stock tune put down 340/350 to the wheels. I have a t56 in case anyone is wondering.

That's great man! With an LS6 intake and ported TB you'll be pulling around 355rwhp. Have you de baffled your ram air yet and sealed it to the air box with weather stripping? Won't help you on the dyno but it'll help a bit with top end.

397 engine? that isn't cubic inches right?

Yeah your car is making decent power, but don't put your estimated engine power in your sig... that's borderline ricer ;)

Lol, I put the engine HP in for comparison to the rwhp to see if the numbers I was given by the tuner were about right after the tuning... guess it would have made more sense to just type it in the message, but I was lazy and put it all in the signature to save a step. I'll remove that to avoid the ricer (yuck!!!) comparison!!! :)

As for debafflign the RAM air, yeah I took out the stock WS6 air lid and baffles and put the SLP lid on. I did not seal it as you noted BlueKnight, does any weatherstripping work, or is there a good one in particular which will not rip off easily?

Well, what I meant by de baffling the hood, its taking out the plastic baffles behind the hood scoops, so when you look in through the ram air scoops on the hood you can see the filter all the way under the lid. And I just got some weather stripping from home depot, it comes sticky on one side and I stuck it two layers thick to the hood. When I close the hood it seals right to the air box.

I always wondered why the top scoops were blocked... So no risk in opening them up? Just remove some screws in there? (It's 1am, so I'll look tomorrow at how they are held in place)

Thanks for the tip.

What's the risk with rain with debaffled ws6 hood? It's a daily driver and it does see rain, so what are the chances of harm because of it?

I have it done to my WS6 and it's a DD and haven't had any problems in the rain.

Thanks for the tip.

I think there are rivets holding it on, that's what I heard. When I bought the car it was already de baffled. I have had my car for almost a year and a half. I have gone through light to medium rain and snow as well. The only thing I wouldn't do is drive through a storm where its just dumping rain like in florida or something.

I have another tip for you. Don't make a fucking thread that has results in your sig.

I can't stand when I'm looking for something and find a whole thread about it, only to find that the answer I wanted was in somebody's sig that is now different because they've done more mods or changed setups.

If you've got results or comments post it in the god damn post. Not your sig. Thanks.

Such anger in you grasshopper... Damn that rap music! :jest:

But yeah op post the results here so that this thread isn't pointless when your sig changes.

You do realize you are in the newb section right? Excuse me for not knowing the etiquette of using signatures, and as noted I was just saving a step... not trying to ruin future searches or anything, even though I am not really sure who would care about this thread months from now when my next mod goes on...

But regardless, no one else had a problem with it. No need to go all pissy on me.

Just picking up my car today, I had some SFC's and a drag bar welded on as well as tuning out a DTC code and working on Driveability.

The car was dyno tuned there with the cam, but it was a different tuner, the original guy worked up 12 more hp then he had started w/ I do not have final figures until I get there but just so you know. You never know until you try.

Nobody has a problem with it becuase they probably haven't need info that was in someones sig.

I try to be as dramatic about this as possible because it helps everyone who reads it to remember.

I appreciate the heads up on the ettiquette... not so much the drama, lol. :)

I guess for future newbs it is good so they can get an idea... I assume that's what you mean when you mention needing info from what was in the sig, considering you are a weeeee bit further along based on the car in your signature!!!

JonCR96Z

Yeah, it's not so much your info right now, but you never know who is looking for what.

We probably dyno about the same.

Not for nothing. This is the Noob section. Like said, cut some slack.

I hate nothing more for "For Sale" Post that has only a link to another post, which is a link to yet the original post.

I'll add that I also hate looking through page after page of "ttt" posts in the classifieds. If you bump an old classified thread, then delete your other 'bump' posts.

And when it's sold try deleting the whole thread. It's not always possible but sometimes you can delete the whole thing.

I do that all the time, delete old bumps, makes the post look fresh and gives the look like I have not been sitting on it for too long.

Nice, Ram air does work, on my z28 I went from 115 to a best of 117.5 after the sux2bu setup. I had a sloer 60, but still ran a new best by .15.
