I plan on swapping my high mileage ls1 for a low mileage one in the next week. My plan is to drop the k member. Is there any guides/ helpful hints when dropping the motor this way?

no need at all for a hoist! Put the rear tires up on a set of ramps, use a cherry picker to lift the front of the car up, set the k member and trans on a set of dollys, and unbolt the 6 bolts on the k member and 4 on the trans crossmember, and raise the car off the k member with the cherry picker. Roll it out the side. Its simple and fast. bet it took me about an hour or two in prep, and a while 15 minutes to get the motor out from under the car.

i know you dont have to have a hoist. but it makes things easier to work on.

thanks for all of the imput and the link is really going to help I'll be using wheel ramps in the back and a cherry picker in the front. How should I life the car by the rad support without worrying about tweaking it...lift from 2 points, or is it strong enough that I don't have to worry about it flexing?

Take out the headlights, one bolt a piece, then there is a small lip under them that's part of the bumper support. The very end of the metal bumper support on each side. Put the hooks on your chain there. Its very sturdy.
