Will nitto NT555R 315/35/17 fit on a 99 TA with stock 17x9 wheels with no rubbing issues if the car is at stock ride height?

not very good! that size tire is for an 11inch rim!

you can pass with a 10.5in wide tire. however, your going to need a spaced and do the BFH mod

An 11" rim? The 03/04 cobra guys are running Nitto 315's on their stock 17x9 wheels without any rubbing issues because Nitto 315's run slimmer. I know this for a fact. With that said, will they work on the 99 TA?

BFH mod?

BFH mod?

BFH=Big F***ing Hammer

Just because you may get by with it on a 9" rim doesn't mean you should. It isn't something I would risk.

That is a wide tire for a 9" rim. Now as for the "cobra guys" Where did you hear this? And have you personally seen cars with this and personally talked to the owners about handling and performance of the tire? If your going to go that wide just get the rims to go with it. You'll have lots of tire sticking out past the rim and it won't look good.

technically yes it will fit but it isn't recommended and not safe... biggest i would go on your rim is 275... i have 17x11 tt2's and i don't rub with 315's at stock height but my offset is probably different than a stock ta rim so i don't know in your case... if you want to run 315's why not sell your wheels and pick up a set of 17x9 and 17x11's?... you can get zr1's for pretty cheap

Seems to be mixed opinions about this combo. Appears to go on without any rubbing issues, but there is a safety concern.

well you have your answer so you can make up your mind what you want to do... we aren't dealing with cobras here so i wouldn't even take any of that info into consideration... they are totally different cars from what we are talking about

I read that since Nitto 315's run alot smaller, they are the same size as a stock 275 Good Year Eagle F1 GS, and that both SilverTA and scalemaster on here have ran them on the stock 17x9 with no issues. Thanks for the replies everyone.

they are not "alot smaller"... i have put them up to all the other 315's i've owned and the contact area was all the same... the only differnece in the 555r's was that the sidewall was more vertical and the other tires had a slight bulge on the sidewall which made them appear bigger, that's about it

for what its worth

my rear end setup is stock springs/shocks

17x11 ZR1 rims...standard fbody offset/backspacing

nitto 555 DR = zero rubbbing even in hard corners, no BFH needed.

switched to nitto 555 street tires and rubbed the inner fender on every corner.

same manufacturer, same car, same rim....different results.

The DR's are narrower.

Thanks for this info. Same tire size for both the nitto streets and nitto DR?

You have named two people out of how many that have given advise against it. If you want to do it then get them. Go read the sticky that says they don't fit. Most on here will be against the idea. But its your call.

the 275 look small on stock wheels ive ran the 315 on a 9 in rim and they fit and looked great.i kept about 22lbs of air in them all the time though.

god when will the stupidity end. you have to look at them for 2 seconds to realize that they are just as wide as a 275 in any other brand as far as TREAD width, what actually counts. however overall width is less because the DRs have no sidewall, which allows the tire to flex to add traction. on a performance tire, there are wide sidewalls to reduce flexing to help cornering. of you look at a normal tire you will see where the tread ends and curves out and adds that half inch of width. if you want to be dumb about it and run a tire that big, go ahead. until you have seen firsthand the results of running an undersized/oversized tire, especially when you are running it on a wheel that is an inch and a half less than what every manufacturer approves of, you wont get how important it is. run the 275, they look fine. i have them on my 17x9 ZR1s, ZexGx has them on his 17x9 Firehawk wheels, Sommer86 has them on his 10 Spokes. All 17x9s, they all look fine.
