I have a 02 Camaro and i broke the corner off the block where the outside starter bolt mounts up. I was wondering if anyone knew any shops in or around the St. Louis area that could weld it back on? Thanks

ouch thats not a good problem hopefully its a clean break and a good welder should be able to fix it. Good luck!

I would get the phone book out and look up welding companies that specialize in aluminum . The engine will probably need to be removed so a good weld can be applied.

Yeah i looked for someone that would do it in the car but its not happening lol So its coming out very soon. I just didnt know who the best person to weld aluminum would be.

Check with some local engine machine shops (AMT, Stiegemeier, Todd's, etc) to see if they can recommend you to someone. The motor will most likely need to be removed. If the block is unfixable, that'll be a good excuse to get a stroker.

Thanks man. Yeah it wouldnt be the worst thing if i had to start from scratch. lol And ive heard about your car. Heard its pretty sick. Youve been to Rt B before havent you?

None of those shops can perform a block repair. Those are bolt on install type shops. Bier Brothers is the last place I'd go even for a car wash.
As said you're gonna have to remove the engine and take it to a metal fabrication shop. You may try C&S Metal Works. They make all kinds of stuff for the military so I'd bet they be able to help you out.

I can fix the block, done two before, same problem.
It would need to be out of the car and disassembled, I would have to pre-heat in an oven before welding. Also it would have to be cleaned very well so disassembly is a must.

Just google JB weld. People use it to seal cracks in the engine blocks, radiators, gas tanks, valve cover etc. But in all seriousness, whats the worse the can happen? the piece will just fall off again? and if it does, its going to cause no additional damage. If welding the piece back on require you to drop the motor, it worth a try with JB Weld
