General LSX Automobile Discussion - Which WS6?

I found two WS6 for sale close to home for me. Ones a 2000 Artic White M6, 67,000 miles. The other is an 2001 NBM M6, 67,000 miles as well. I like both colors so its really a toss up for me. Which one is the better buy?

Both links go to the same car, FYI...
The 2001 will be marginally faster (and I mean marginally) with the LS6 intake. After that, it's pretty much all color preference. I'm a huge fan of the Arctic White...its my favorite color, so I voted for that one.

I could be wrong, and probably am... But if the blue one is an 01, shouldnt it have different WS6 wheels? I thought that style was only used for 98-00.

2001 and 2002 Speedline had additional, optional wheels. Same standard Ws6 wheels from 96-2002 with Speedlines as an option in the last years.

I was going to vote for the NBM due to it looking close to stock and the LS6 intake...until I saw the Alpine TypeX in the white car. That baby will rattle your eardrums.

Surely you didn't post for advice on the radio or the colour of the paint.
The 01 blue one is the better value BY FAR from the info in the ads without checking the cars closely in person.
The 00 white was certainly owned by a younger guy that beat the piss out of it. The 01 blue looks like an unmolested original. Also, the 01 has many mechanical engine improvments over the 00 (LS6 intake, no EGR, stronger rod bolts, LS6 clutch).
On a minor note, those wheels on that 01 are stock. This car was probably built before Dec 00, after which the 01 cars started to use the 02 WS6 style wheels.
If the 01 blue one checks out for Carfax and hoist inspection, this choice is a no brainer.

I like the white one. A little work under the hood fixing that half assed wiring and it will be a nice car, by the pics anyway.
I have a NBM xtreme blazer and its a PITA to keep clean, im done with dark colors.

You are correct sure I was simply looking for technical advice. Im a camaro man and knew about the 01 having the LS6 intake but was looking for any other valuable imput. I really do like artic white but you bring up a good point on the white one. With the TA decal in the window and what looks like trans am decals on the door handles plus the stereo system you would assume it was a young kids car. Hell I'm only 20 myself but my Camaro was done up with a sound system and I babied that shit like an old man except for when mustangs came around. With that benig said I am going to check into both cars. The white one says one owner which makes me feel it couldnt be a young kid buying it new in 2000 but who knows more research needs to be done on my part.
Thanks for the comments fellas!

NBM all the way. Plus, on the 01 you get the ls6 intake, updated exhaust manifolds, and black interior. however, with the $$ you can save by buying the 00, you can easily buy an ls6 intake and lt headers to make up for the difference
none the less, both look like they're in great shape. take a look at both and see which one is better in person

I paid $10,000 after TTL(don't forget to add that to your price) for my 90k car and that was cheap compared to all the other shit. Yeah those cars may only be worth $10k, but if everyone wants $13k, what are you gonna do?
I would go NBM, white is so plain and everybody has a white car.

i like the white. but it looks like sound system and brakes were installed professionally because he doesn't even have a lid (easy mod). white car guy also looks like a tool with the Trans am logo on windshield.
two types of 30 year olds- ones who buy sports car to feel young and beat them (white) and other who buys one because now he has the money ( Blue)
The blue car looks like it was taken care of someone who doesnt know cars because most car people would spend the extra $$ and upgrade the tire size
Blue is the Safe investment IMO
i picked up a 99 z28 one owner he was 30 when he bought it so he babied it.

The 01 has the ls6 intake but has a smaller cam the the earlier models with the ls1 intakes. I was under the impression they put a smaller cam with the ls6 intake mani to try and keep the horsepower the same. Somebody correct me if im wrong.
eseibel67
11-03-2009, 09:28 PM
^ Smaller cam was installed due to emissions reasons - no EGR valve on 01-02.
And it keeps the HP the same.

which one is better? well minor scratches in the paint will not show up as much.

it was to save money in ditching the EGR and keeping reduced emissions. but yeah, the intake manifold made up for it.
with the same manifolds as the 01, the 00 will be a faster car with the more aggressive stock cam.

What i would do is wait for a better deal... These cars arent so rare and there is nothing special about them... Im also saying that 13K is waaaaay to steep for a high mileage 8-9 year old car with ~70K on the clock
13K would suit a car with ~50K miles
BobDoLe
11-05-2009, 05:30 PM
who pays asking price?
all this time, i'm sure dozens of used car dealerships are probably bombarding the sellers with lowball offers and harassment about how the cars are worthless.
once the sellers get reasonable offers from serious private buyers, they're probably happy to compromise.

A lil update on this thread. I went to go look at and drive the Navy blue 01 and it was a real nice car. Only mod was a Borla Catback which sounded good. It is owned by a guy in his 50s and he bought it 3 years ago for $17,500. Since then he has put less than 2,000 miles on it while putting in new brakes, a clutch, and battery. It was clean inside and out and I really liked it. The guy selling the white ws6 has yet to answer his email or phone so hes probably shit out of luck. The only negative on the NBM WS6 is that the service engine soon light is on. Thy guy said he would have it scanned to see whats up.

could be something as simple as the 1-4 skip shift module. I have a skip shift eliminator on my car but it must have gone bad or something bc ive had a SES light and a code for about 3 months for 1-4 upshift .... dont care to fix it bc it still runs and shifts fine.

The car was taken to a garage and the code was cleared. The mechanic said it was an "upper bank code", not sure what that even is. The owner did not ask for the codes like I asked him too, so I dont know whats good.
mac62989
11-16-2009, 07:02 PM
Does anyone have any idea of what an upper bank code is? I looked under the hood I see what looks like fuel sensors on both sides of the intake mani. The first mechanic cleared the code but the check engine light went back on. I believe it was on the driver side as well. I can check anything as the car now sits in my garage..

He probably meant upstream bank 1 (or bank 2) O2 sensor.

Car jus got home from my uncles gas station. Said the code was triggered by both cats. Doesnt make sense to me I remember when the cat went bad in my camaro it was a clear loss of power. I guess the cats arent doing their job but are unclogged. Car is just over the 8 years 80,000 mile warranty. A little over 9 years old with only 66,000 miles. This put a hamper on my day for sure.

I'm pretty sure the catalytic converter warranty was revised for LS1 fbodies in the past year, you should check it out with your closest dealer. If my memory serves me correctly, it's now 10 years and 120,000 miles.

Thanks Kameleon. I believe my father contacted the Pontiac dealer in my town once it came home from the garage. He talked to the parts department and they said it was 8 years or 80,000. But then again they dont want to know anything its under warranty. Im gona look into that extended warranty today. Pontiac wanted almost $475 per cat which is crazy when you can get magnaflows for $200 each.

Almost all shops ALWAYS say it's a cat and 90% of the time it isn't. I usually don't like going to dealerships for stuff like this but they for whatever reason can get to the root cause vs. a regular shop. Maybe they have more advanced equipment, who knows. But I'd try that before shelling out $800 for cats.
mac62989
11-19-2009, 08:14 PM
The shop was my uncles so it wasnt someone trying to rip me. I took the WS6 to emissions to fail so I could get it registered and have 60 days to try to pass the test. Emission came up as the driver side cat as well I believe which is bank 1.
Kameleon thanks again I called GM in Michigan and it is indeed 10 years 120,000. You sir saved me alot of money and I have an appointment on tuesday at the Pontiac dealer to replace the cat or cats for me.

Hahaha, no problem! I'm just happy my memory was randomly functioning enough to remember that. It's weird no one else mentioned it in here, I remember because Pontiac actually mailed me something and it freaked me out...only thing they've ever sent me since I've owned my T/A. Oh the memories.
